Letting the cat out the bag – we’re having a baby!

25th April 2019 58 By Rachael Stray

Finally we are letting the cat out of the bag and announcing to the world that we’re having a baby!

Earlier today we had our 28 week scan and finally felt that this was the right time to share the amazing news that we’re pregnant.

Avid readers will know the hubby and I have been married for almost three years now so I’m sure this announcement isn’t a surprise to many of you.

I feel like I’ve been carrying this huge secret around with me for months which I suppose we have in a way.

Only our nearest and dearest knew which felt quite special like we were in a little pregnancy bubble but the timing felt right to let more people in on the secret!

How we found out we’re having a baby

So, we’ve known we are expecting since about week 2 of the pregnancy.

I didn’t faint or have any obvious symptoms like terrible morning sickness – I actually didn’t know I was pregnant.

Back in November to celebrate my 30th birthday the girls and I were set to enjoy the pamper party package at South Causey Inn and I had bought all the essentials – Prosecco and chocolate as I was unaware of the miracle taking place in my womb!

Twas the night before when we thought it might be a good idea to take a pregnancy test; as I’d be enjoying bubbles in many forms (Prosecco and a hot tub) just to be safe.

I nipped to Asda on my way home and casually bought a pack of two tests and took one that night which was inconclusive but I still didn’t think I was pregnant.

The next morning I was up bright and early as I wanted a nice bath etc before the girls picked me up.

I did the second test and bloody hell a faint plus sign appeared in the window.

So I rang Steve who was at work slightly panicked to ask him what to do.

And back to the shops I went.

I bought something nice and non-alcoholic to drink (just in case) and a Clear Blue test which actually tells you in words if you’re pregnant and how far along you are.

After gulping down a big glass of juice I took the test.

It was the longest two minutes of my life waiting for the verdict but yep clear as day 1-2 weeks and pregnant appeared in the viewing window.

I really was pregnant.

So I called Steve back and blurted it out “So I’m definitely pregnant!”

Him: “Are you sure?”

Me: “Oh yeah Clear Blue says 1-2 weeks and pregnant so yeah I’m pretty sure.”

I Googled what to do next and called the doctor’s surgery who advised that I needed to provide a urine sample to them and if that came back positive I’d have my booking in appointment with the midwife.

I quickly had a very tepid bath and got myself ready all the while thinking how am I going to keep this a secret from the girls?!

Well I needn’t have worried I was in the car all of 30 seconds and the cat was out of the bag!

“Why have you got Schloer- you’re not pregnant are you?!” Erm well…

The girls knowing was actually a big relief as my mind was swimming and I needed to talk about this monumental life changing thing that was happening!

Once we arrived at the South Causey we checked in and had our delicious Afternoon Tea.

I had to forgo the Prosecco it was Schloer, orange juice and a mocktail for me but the girls certainly made the most of the bubbles!

To be safe I didn’t get to fully enjoy the hot tub and I had let the beauty therapists in on the secret as I couldn’t have a foot massage or lie on my front. I had a back massage while sitting which was weird but still nice! We still had a fabulous time and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

So now you know our secret we’re having a baby and we’re absolutely thrilled.

Now the cat is out of the bag I’ll share pregnancy updates with you I’ve created a separate tab for parenting to keep the content altogether in one place and you can follow my pregnancy diaries series too.
