Dr Brown’s anti-colic baby bottles – review (AD)

Colic can be a really common issue for babies which is why Dr Brown’s have created special anti-colic baby bottles which we were kindly gifted to try out*.

Dr Brown’s Options+™ anti-colic Baby Bottles have a unique feeding system that grows with baby and they claim helps alleviate the symptoms of windy colic.

We received two of these special bottles and a sterilising system to try out in return for an honest review.

I was determined to breastfeed Elsie exclusively for at least six months and then go onto bottles before I went back to work, however breastfeeding wasn’t meant to be for us. I’ll share more in an upcoming blog post on our breastfeeding struggles.

We were advised by our midwives to introduce bottle top ups alongside breastfeeding which we did and then eventually we made the decision to move to formula exclusively.

Once we started with the bottle top ups we noticed Elsie was getting really upset and unsettled in the early evening, after speaking with our health visitor she said this was likely colic.

Using the Dr Brown’s bottles instead of another brand we soon started to notice a difference – no more unsettled early evenings with tears and drawn up knees.

What’s great about these bottles is that you can use them with or without the vent system. If your baby is fortunate not to suffer from colic simply remove the vent.

The breast-like teat shape is correctly contoured for a proper latch and a more natural bottle-feeding experience – perfect for switching from breast to bottle and back again.

 

Each teat is specially engineered to offer the same consistent natural flow, so you and baby know what to expect in every feed.

Prior to using the bottles we had to dismantle them and place them in boiling water. After which we had to wash in hot soapy water and rinse and then sterilise.

After the first use you just have to wash in hot soapy water and rinse and then sterilise before feeding baby.

The steriliser is easy to use and fits comfortably in our microwave. Depending on the wattage of your microwave determines how many minutes you have it on for and the cooling period afterwards too.

Dismantling the bottles is really easy and it’s the same to put them back together again too – there are useful instructions on how to correctly do this to make sure you’re doing it right.

Also included is a handy little brush to make sure you clean the vent properly after every use.
