Festive favourites from 2022
Christmas may be over for another year but I thought I’d reflect on my festive favourites from 2022.
I have done this for the last few years when I looked back on my festive favourites from 2021, festive favourites from 2020, festive favourites from 2019, festive favourites from 2018 and my festive favourites from 2017.
Festive favourites from 2022
After a more normal celebration for 2021 than we’d in a few years (thanks COVID-19) this year it was thankfully much of the same.
The build up to Christmas
Our festive celebrations started in early December with a visit from the in-laws where we did some Christmas shopping at Metro Centre, decorated the house and visited Father Christmas’ Grotto at Beamish.
Elsie was thrilled to have nanny and pops stay over and she particularly loved riding on the vintage bus at Beamish.
For the very first time, Steve and I were able to go into Elsie’s nursery for a special Christmas event.
We enjoyed songs outside in the snow decorating a Christmas tree followed up by warming up inside with hot chocolate and shortbread for the grown-ups and a fruit platter and milk for the little ones.
Santa even came by for a visit and gave each child a new book.
It was really special to be able to spend some time with Elsie at nursery and it helped us get in the festive spirit.
Christmas Eve
We collected our order from Knitsley Farm Shop in the morning and managed a quick trip to Tesco and enjoyed the brass band playing Christmas songs.
After a bath it was time for new Christmas Eve pyjamas and putting our treats for Santa and the reindeers.
Christmas Day
And then it was Christmas Day and after breakfast Elsie was shocked to see that Santa had been.
My parents and brother came over in the morning to watch Elsie open some of her presents before heading back home to crack on with their Christmas dinner prep.
Steve cooked a fantastic Christmas dinner with his tried and tested delicious turkey recipe for just the three of us.
The Yorkshire puddings and pulling crackers were a firm favourite for Elsie.
After the festive feast it was time for dessert
Elsie did well with opening her mountain of presents from family and friends.
When Elsie had gone to sleep it was time for a picky tea and Call the Midwife of course.
Boxing Day
In a change to recent tradition we went over to my mam and dad’s house on Boxing Day.
Christmas 2022 was even better than 2021.
Elsie got into the magic of it more and hearing her singing Christmas songs was such a delight.
