The Christmas Tag

The Christmas Tag

23rd December 2018 9 By Rachael Stray

As it’s almost the big day I thought I’d take part in some festive fun with the Christmas Tag which I was inspired to do by Orla from Fancy Paper blog. You can read her post here.

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?

I love Miracle on 34th Street, both Home Alone films and the Holiday.

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I think there’s been snow but I don’t think it started to fall on Christmas Day as far as I can remember!

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

Steve and I take it in turns to spend Christmas with my family in the North East one year and then down in Lincolnshire with Steve’s family the other.

This year it’s our turn to stay up here so we’ll spend Christmas Eve at our home and then Christmas Day we’ll be at my parents’ house.

My mam, dad and brother will be there as well as my nana and cousins. I’m really looking forward to it.

We’ll then go down a few days later to see Steve’s family so we get the best of both worlds.

We open presents in the morning and then we have a big Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. We play silly games and generally have a good laugh, it’s all a bit chaotic but I love it!

4. What is your favourite Christmas song?

I love Fairytale of New York as it was always a favourite of my mam and dad’s. I am a sucker for a good sing along to Christmas songs – not pre-December though!

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No not usually – presents get opened on Christmas Day.

However, I’ve always received a new set of pyjamas for Christmas Eve and this year my mam has made a Christmas Eve box for us so I’ll be opening that.

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

I think so!

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most to?

New pyjamas on Christmas Eve of course and just spending time with my nearest and dearest.

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

It was always fake when I was growing up but Steve and I have had a real tree every year – except last year when we didn’t bother with one. We name him Terrence and this year he’s a beaut.

9. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?

I love Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. I’m not a big fan of a lot of the traditional Christmas food and treats. I don’t like Christmas cake or pudding, I don’t like mince pies.

However I do love all the chocolates including my advent calendar – you’re never too old to have one!

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

I prefer giving gifts. I get embarrassed when people watch me opening my presents. I do try to make others happy with their gifts and get more joy out of seeing their enjoyment!

11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

I’ve been so fortunate and very lucky to receive really good presents over the years. I don’t think I can pick one!

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I wouldn’t want to go anywhere for Christmas itself but I’d quite like to one year just spend a few days tucked away somewhere just Steve and I maybe Hesleyside Huts we had such a brilliant time on our glamping trip there I’d love to cosy up in wintertime in one of the huts.

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper or not?

Definitely not. Steve is and puts me to shame.

14. Most memorable Holiday moment?

When I was little I unwrapped what I thought was a towel and I was really excited. Oh how my whole family laughed at my mistake, it was a dressing gown not a towel. Nonetheless I was very grateful.

15. What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I accidentally stumbled across a pile of my presents and the realisation hit me. I was sad but once my little brother came along the magic starts again.

We’re all Santa really and it’s our job to create the magic for the younger generations.

16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?

I do and I do try to stick to them.

17. What makes the holidays special for you?

Spending time with family and hopefully friends too. Having some much-needed time off work, over-indulging in all the festive treats and being surrounded by love.

18. What do you wish for Christmas this year?

Just to be with my favourite people and that we are happy and healthy.

19. Favourite Christmas smell?

I love the smell of my mam baking delicious treats. We were given a Christmas Yankee Candle which I love the smell of.

20. What is the worst/weirdest gift you’ve ever received?

Mustard tights from my mam when I was a difficult teen. Oddly enough they’d be right in fashion now. They did not go down well at the time and were never worn!

21.Favourite holiday drink?

I’m a big hot chocolate fan.

22. Have you ever spent Christmas in another country? If yes, where?

I don’t think so and I don’t think I’d like to either. For me it’s family time.

23. What place/landmark in your town do you love during Christmas?

Every year I visit Fenwick window in Newcastle and that really gets me in the festive mood.  Every year the Northumberland Street set of windows is transformed from advertising clothes, bedding and homeware goods into a magical story.

This year’s theme is the Snowman and I have’t seen it yet!

It attracts families and people of all ages from all over who queue up to get up close to see the story unfold window by window. There’s little characters and themed music and it all moves. It really does feel magical.

24. Were you naughty or nice this year? You know that Santa is watching.

Mostly nice I would say but I’m sure like everyone I have my moments.

Bonus Question: 25. Do you own/wear a Christmas themed jumper or t-shirt?

Yes I own a few and I am a big fan of Christmas jumpers. I treated myself to a new one this year.
