Chris Ramsey 20/20 tour – review

Chris Ramsey 20/20 tour – review

14th November 2021 1 By Rachael Stray

Finally the rescheduled gig for Chris Ramsey 20/20 tour went ahead at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle so I thought I would share my review.

I bought the tickets what feels like an age ago and I went with one of my best friends and didn’t even realise until we sat down that we had front row seats.

I’ve seen Chris Ramsey live a few times for his standup shows such as his I’m Just Happy To Be Out Of The House tour when he came to the Arena in Newcastle, it was filmed for a live TV special too as well as the TV special he filmed at the  Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle.

Warm up act for Chris Ramsey – Carl Hutchinson

The show was late to start – a mixture of lots of people queuing and getting through the various checks outside of the arena and the queues at the bars inside!

But the packed arena gave a warm Geordie welcome once the show was underway.

As with many of his shows, prior to Chris coming on stage, he has a warm up act and it was Carl Hutchinson (aka friend of the podcast).

I’ve seen Carl live a few times and he’s very funny, half an hour isn’t long enough really!

Carl warmed up the crowd nicely with comedic tales of stag dos and ordering food when drunk.

Nobody batted an eyelid at his pre-flight drinking habits and the amount of gin consumed on said flight.

After a quick interval, it was time for the main act.

Chris Ramsey 20/20 tour

Chris came on stage full of energy and smiles for his hometown crowd and he was given a great reception from us all.

He quickly addressed the elephant in the room, confessing that one of his worst decisions was to name his new show the 20/20 tour!

And he started with what he had written for the show as if the last 18 months had never happened, brave and hilarious and then he got into it properly.

Fans of the podcast will be pleased to know that he’s kept content up his sleeve specifically for the tour, and those who don’t listen to the podcast can still enjoy the show but should definitely listen to the podcast.

The show itself is a fantastic insight into Ramsey and the awkward situations his life as a husband and father lead him into.

Those situations range from a hilarious bit on Alexa overhearing private conversations between him and his wife Rosie and why he doesn’t trust the Amazon device, to a super embarrassing anecdote with his son Robin in the changing rooms at the swimming baths.

I don’t think I can look at an ice cream cone in the same way again!

And his belief in the covert teaching of all girls of how to run the perfect bath went down really well.

The audience was packed and the energy was great in the Arena.

He took us behind the curtain of Strictly – letting us know about his code name for the show and the hilarious mishap when trying to book into a hotel.

And like the Sh**ged Married Annoyed live show Chris made use of some videos and pictures on the big screen which worked really well.

I love his style of observational comedy with exaggerated stories from his life whether that be about fatherhood, how many sofas and lamps Rosie has to grassing up his friends like Carl!

Rosie was in the audience for his Newcastle show so that added a different element I am sure for us.

Being front row with my best friend was the absolute tonic we both needed after a tough 18 months, it was great to spend the evening with the only thing on the agenda being to enjoy ourselves and laugh.

You can purchase your tickets for Chris Ramsey 20/20 Tour on his website now. Carl Hutchinson is also doing a solo tour so please check him out too.
