Bliss head spa treatment – review

Bliss head spa treatment – review

26th April 2026 0 By Rachael Stray

I recently enjoyed a bliss head spa treatment so thought I’d share a full honest review.

Tucked away in the heart of Lanchester, the Japanese Head Spa Durham is exactly what its name promises — pure bliss. And I don’t say that lightly.

This isn’t your standard hair appointment. It’s slower, softer, more intentional.

The kind of experience that gently forces you to switch off — something that feels increasingly rare.

As part of my five intentions for 2026 I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things.

I arrived for my head spa appointment little early (as always), but there was no sense of rushing.

Carrie welcomed me warmly and invited me to sit in the calming waiting area. Immediately, the outside world felt a little quieter.

After a quick chat, she prepared a tailored blend for my hair before leading me upstairs to the treatment room — and honestly, it felt like stepping into a Japanese-inspired sanctuary right here in County Durham.

Soft, moody lighting. Earthy tones. Gentle spa music. And the most soothing, delicate scent lingering in the air.

It was instant calm, exactly what I needed.

The bliss treatment (80 minutes)

The session begins with a scalp analysis — and this part is genuinely fascinating.

Using a specialist camera, Carrie showed a close-up view of my scalp on screen, explaining everything in a way that feels informative but not overwhelming.

To my surprise, my scalp is healthy and my hair thick — despite the post-pregnancy havoc my hair has been through.

A quiet reminder that the small things (good products, less heat) really do make a difference.

After that, I was left to get comfortable — wrapped in a towel, lying on a specially designed treatment bed.

When Carrie returned, the head spa experience truly began.

A gently heated eye mask was placed over my eyes (such a simple touch, but so lovely), and from that moment on, I melted.

What’s included:

  • Scalp analysis
  • Tailored scalp oil
  • Relaxing scalp, neck and shoulder massage
  • Acupressure
  • Hair fountain water therapy
  • Tailored scalp scrub
  • Tailored shampoo and conditioning treatment
  • Steam treatment
  • Hand and arm massage
  • Facial massage
  • Rough blow dry

The experience

The treatment was genuinely absolute bliss.

An oasis of calm is the only way I can describe the treatment room.

Due to being sat at a desk most of my days, the shoulder and upper back massage was exactly what I didn’t realise I needed — releasing so much built-up tension.

The scalp massage was deeply relaxing, with gentle hair pulling that somehow melted stress away.

I found the water element was unlike anything I expected — rhythmic, soothing, almost hypnotic. Not just water on your hair, but a full sensory experience.

And the steam treatment left my hair feeling intensely nourished — like it had absorbed every bit of goodness.

By the time the facial massage began, I was completely switched off.

That rare, floaty calm where your mind finally goes quiet.

Afterwards

Once the treatment ended, I was given time to slowly come round and get dressed — no rushing, just ease.

Carrie finished with a rough blow dry while we chatted away, which made the whole experience feel even more personal and relaxed.

But the real result?

My hair felt incredible.

Not just clean — silky. Light, soft, and noticeably healthier.

Even a few days later, when I went for my cut and colour, my hairdresser commented on the shine and condition of my hair. And that, for me, says everything.

Final thoughts

I went in expecting a lovely treatment and I left feeling completely reset.

This is more than a hair appointment — it’s proper self-care. Thoughtful, tailored, and genuinely restorative.

Next time, I’ll be booking the full works because if this was bliss… I want even more of it!
