4 reasons to start looking deeper into your makeup (AD)
For some people, makeup is a massive part of their lives; they could easily spend hours experimenting with eye shadow looks and searching for their perfect shade of lipstick.
However, have you ever considered just how ethical your makeup collection is?

4 reasons to start looking deeper into your makeup
If you want to become a more ethical makeup consumer, you should consider going cruelty-free. Here are four reasons to start looking deeper into your makeup collection and be more thoughtful about what brand you buy from in the future:
Your favourite brand might be testing on animals
According to a recent survey, 36% of women only bought from brands who didn’t test on animals – but this number should be much higher if people want a more ethical makeup bag.
You might be reluctant to avoid your favourite makeup brand, but it’s necessary if you want to encourage a positive change in the makeup industry.
Animal testing can be a really cruel process, causing the animal great pain and distress during testing; is your new mascara really worth it?
View this as an adventure and a time to explore other makeup brands that you had never considered before; who knows, maybe you’ll discover a new favourite brand?
Your favourite brand might change their ethical ethos eventually, so have patience and will power.
It’s best for the planet
If you want to become a more ethical consumer, then you need to adopt a more minimalist approach when you shop for makeup.
You might be tempted by the stunning eye shadow palettes and the luscious lipstick shades, but you need to ask yourself if they’re really necessary; you might already have similar shades in your collection.
Makeup has an expiry date and it’s likely that you’ll end up throwing the makeup away before you use it all; this is terrible for the environment as your makeup will only end up in landfill. If you have overbought, you can send unused makeup to certain charities.
Save your money
Let’s face it, makeup can be expensive. High-end brands can charge hundreds for an eye shadow palette and you could spend a large portion of your monthly wages on a luxury foundation.
If you look deeper into your makeup collection, you’ll realise how much you really spend on unnecessary products. However, you don’t need to give up on your passion for makeup, but ask if the amount of product you receive is worth the cost.
Look after your health
Have you ever really checked the ingredients in your makeup and question how they have been tested?
Many makeup products are tested on animals, but studies suggest that animal tested products might not be the best for our physical health; animal biology is not the same as human biology, so the reactions could be completely different.
Also, there are more than 50 forms of non-animal related tests available, all of which have been deemeed safe for human skin.
With these other reliable tests available, why is animal testing even an option?
