Beautiful children’s clothes from Vintage Kit – review (AD)

Elsie was kindly sent a gorgeous dress from Katherine Trigg founder and designer of beautiful children’s clothes from Vintage Kit in exchange for an honest review*.

Vintage Kit for those not familiar with the brand have absolutely stunning designs from children’s clothing, bedding, wallpaper and lampshades. Everything is vintage inspired and all printing and manufacturing is done here in the UK.

Elsie was kindly sent this absolutely gorgeous little dress which is from the upcoming Spring Vintage Kit collection so this is a sneak peek!

The dress was very carefully packaged and I’m really pleased that they take recycling and their carbon footprint seriously.

To keep the carbon footprint as minimal as possible they recycle as much as they can and only produce two of every design – when it’s gone it’s gone!

Vintage Kit embodies classic British design and is anything but fast fashion which I think is absolutely brilliant.

Fast fashion is something I’m trying to avoid.

I’m trying to be a much more conscious shopper. I’ve always donated old clothes to charity and I’ll be hopefully selling on my maternity clothes and some of Elsie’s clothes she has outgrown next year.

I used to love fast fashion particularly when I was a skint student but I do believe in the old phrases “you get what you pay for” and “quality over quantity”.

My husband doesn’t buy into fast fashion at all – he buys higher end pieces from brands such as Ralph Lauren and Levi which really do last and stand the test of time. He thinks it’s better to have one pricier pair of jeans than three cheaper pairs which you will need to replace quicker as the quality is so much poorer.

I’m now coming round to his way of thinking – it makes sense economically and also environmentally too!

Anyway I digress…

Although Elsie’s Vintage Kit dress is part of the upcoming Spring collection I just couldn’t wait for her to wear it.

As the weather has definitely turned chillier I just layered up the dress with a long-sleeved dress, cable knit tights and a handmade cardigan.

Elsie wore her beautiful new dress for the first time to Wynard Hall as we were guests at the special Bump and Me Afternoon Tea event organised by Water Babies in partnership with Mamas & Papas.

She received so many compliments and just looked absolutely gorgeous (even if I do say so myself).

The dress has washed lovely and the quality is just so evident. The attention to detail is fantastic and the design is so sweet. It’s a unique piece and I would absolutely recommend Vintage Kit.

As they only produce two sizes of each design it means you know you’re getting something that little bit more special – not every little girl or boy at the party is going to be wearing the same outfit.

The designs are also made with children in mind so that they look beautiful but they aren’t restricted they are comfortable and able to play just as it should be.

History of Vintage Kit

Vintage Kit is a lifestyle brand featuring children’s clothes, bedding, wallpaper and lampshades all created using hand-drawn prints of original characters. They also have a co-brand collection with Disney.

The company launched more than ten years ago with a boutique vintage inspired collection designed to dress children beautifully, but in a way they could still play freely.

Vintage Kit clothes are made from fabrics that are soft, cuddly and comfortable but also highly creative and individual.

Vintage Kit’s roots are drawn from an eclectic mix of British style influences, and they work closely with a small group of talented seamstresses to produce the ranges and aim to ensure that all printing and manufacturing is done in the UK – very important for such a quintessentially British brand.

The collections are handmade and/or hand finished in their Welsh Studios and their manufacturer in Strawberry Fields in London. The hand drawn fabrics are printed in the UK using natural or low impact dyes.

Founder and designer Katherine Trigg has a background in Art, Textiles and Fashion. Her collections are designed and made with integrity – balancing delicate vintage nostalgia with modern and wearable shapes. This original ethos continues to be the core of her design process.
