My overall thoughts on The Collector
Once I got a few chapters in I really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down.
The protagonist Detective Lucy O’Hara is a Forensic Linguist which is a different take on the usual murder mystery story lines.
Renowned archeologist Dr. Philip Carlton is found dead by possible suicide, but Detective O’Hara thinks it was murder because of the tone and language used in his “suicide” note.
The Collector is a vicious psychopath who has the money and intelligence to have people who get in his way removed.
While delving into the case, she meets the upper class Carlton family, slowly uncovering their murky history.
There’s more going on than Detective O’Hara is privy to and the more she investigates the more red tape she has to get through and mysteries she must solve.
Can she uncover The Collector’s true identity without getting hurt in the process?
The Collector is the first book in a series so hopefully there’s more to come from Detective O’Hara.
About the author John Maher
John Maher has published five novels and a collection of short stories. He has won national awards for radio play and short story with RTE in Ireland.
His novel, The Luck Penny, was shortlisted for debut novel on BBC Radio 5.
A former teacher and lecturer, he holds a Phd from the School of Oriental and African Studies (London).
He lives in a small Irish village, between the Atlantic and the Irish Sea, from which he steals away, from time to time, to visit the world outside the island.
THE COLLECTOR will be his first novel published with Inkubator Books .

This sounds so interesting. You’re right, having the detective be a forensic linguist is a new and unusual take on a mystery.
