Sunday lunch at Lumley Castle

As an Easter treat we booked ourselves in for Sunday lunch at Lumley Castle with the in-laws.

Dating back to 1389 Lumley Castle holds stories of betrayal, war and the visits of monarchs abound and of course it’s where Steve and I celebrated our wedding.

We hadn’t been back to Lumley Castle since we got married back in 2016.

For Christmas Steve’s sister and brother-in-law bought us a voucher for one of the Elizabethan banquets they host at Lumley but perusing the menu we felt I wouldn’t be able to fully enjoy the experience while pregnant.

Not wanting to waste the voucher the staff very kindly let us use it toward Easter Sunday lunch instead.

Sunday lunch at Lumley Castle

We arrived with 10 minutes to spare before our reservation so we made our way to the Black Knight Restaurant.

It was decorated in spring colours – white linen with yellow trimmings and a Cadbury Creme Egg at each place sitting.

Steve and I plumped for the trout salad to start whereas Steve’s parents went for the pate which looked delicious.

My starter was really refreshing and tasty.

For mains we all opted for the roast beef and we were all glad as the accompanying Yorkshire Pudding has to be the biggest I’ve ever had.

The beef was delicious really tender and not tough at all. The vegetables were al dente but tasty. And as usual I asked for extra gravy and it was packed full of flavour.

We didn’t leave a morsel of food on our plates!

After a little rest it was time for another round of drinks and to order our desserts.

Again Steve and I went for the same thing the chocolate dome sponge with honeycomb.

It was really tasty, just a little bit of sponge but the chocolate wasn’t too sweet. I polished the lot.

Steve’s Mam went for the Mango mascarpone cheesecake which was a very generous wedge. His dad went for the pear and almond tart.

Once our dishes were cleaned away and our drinks finished off we settled the bill – just the drinks to pay for and headed to my parents house.

We were absolutely stuffed after that feast.

The food was really delicious, well-presented and the staff were very attentive and friendly.

At £29.99 a head it wasn’t cheap but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and couldn’t fault the food or the staff.

For me it was definitely worth the money.

It was a lovely way to celebrate Easter as a family and the weather was glorious too.
