Lunch at Cote Brasserie – review
I have finally been to Cote Brasserie in Newcastle where I enjoyed a three course lunch with the girls.
After a fun few hours at the Northern Wedding Show we headed to Cote Brasserie.
I have been to Cote Brasserie in Lincoln and York and enjoyed breakfast, tea and cocktails.
But it was a first visit for food to the Newcastle restaurant for all three of us.
It also happened to be Newcastle Restaurant Week which meant we got a really good deal for our lunch – three courses for £15.
WHAT IS NE1 NEWCASTLE RESTAURANT WEEK?
NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week launched in 2011 and was inspired by New York and its original Restaurant Week concept. More than 100 restaurants take part with a bespoke menu for either £10pp or £15pp.
I think it’s the perfect way to discover a new restaurant in Newcastle or enjoy an old favourite at a great price.
Newcastle hosts two restaurant weeks a year – one in January and one in August.
Cote Brasserie in Newcastle is located in the former Barclay’s Bank on Grainger Street and it is a beautiful building both inside and out.
We were warmly greeted upon our arrival and taken upstairs to our table. There were two waiters covering our floor.
The kitchen was upstairs which meant that waiters were running up and downstairs with large trays, there were a few mishaps of dropped plates and glasses but nobody made a fuss.
While we perused the special Restaurant Week menu we ordered our drinks.

Catherine plumped for the french onion soup, Joanne chose the pork and pistachio terrine while I couldn’t resist the moules marineres.
Our starters arrived after a short wait and we all dived in.
I usually go for Italian style mussels so this was a change for me.
The mussels in the white wine garlic sauce were really tasty and the portion was just right.

Starters demolished and enjoyed we had a good chat about the highlights of the Northern Wedding Show.
Our main courses arrived and my half grilled chargrilled Breton chicken with fries was delicious.

The garlic butter was a lovely accompaniment for the chicken which was succulent and full of flavour. The fries were good and I didn’t leave a scrap on my plate.
After a short wait our desserts arrived. The dark chocolate mousse was delicious and a generous portion which I polished off no problem.

Our food was really tasty and the Restaurant Week menu price was a really good deal particularly when you take into account the prices on the normal main menu – £15 for three courses is a bargain!
Unfortunately we felt that the upstairs dining area was quite cramped and the waiters were not as attentive as perhaps they could have been.
One waiter accidentally spilt water and smashed a glass at the table next to ours and appeared quite rude when cleaning up the mess – the diners were quite shocked at his attitude.
The table to our other side were left waiting for their main courses to be cleared for quite a while as well as their desserts to arrive, there were also some issues with missing sides for their main courses – they seemed quite unimpressed with the service they received.
Fortunately we had no issues with our food but Catherine did have to ask twice for another spoon.
Despite these niggles we enjoyed our lunch the food was really delicious hand I think we would return.
