Miller & Carter Steakhouse – review

I have finally been to Miller & Carter Steakhouse and I was really impressed with the whole experience.

Originally I had planned to go to Miller & Carter in Newcastle with the girls for my 30th birthday but as we kick-started our celebrations with the pamper party package at South Causey Inn I found out I was pregnant with Elsie.

You’re advised to have meat well cooked when pregnant so I didn’t want to have a posh steak not cooked the way I like it so we put those plans on hold.

To celebrate our birthdays and my first night out post-baby we headed to Miller & Carter in Newcastle city centre.

I had expected the meal to cost a bomb but actually the bill was really reasonable for the quantity and quality of food we had – £33.25 for me.

We shared a lovely bottle of red wine and while we waited for our food to arrive we had a good gossip.

To start we plumped for the mezze tasting board: halloumi and vegetable skewers, smashed avocado, classic houmous topped with pomegranate, Padron style peppers, curried cauliflower bites and warm flatbread.

There was plenty for the three of us to share and although I’m a big meat eater it was nice to have a veggie starter for a change – it was all delicious and not a scrap was left.

For mains we all plumped for sirloin steaks.

I had the bacon and honey mustard salad (usually a wedge but a side salad on this occasion), 8oz medium rare steak, three peppercorn sauce and fries.

We didn’t have dessert as we were stuffed and wanted space for cocktails!

Just a week later the three of us, plus Elsie met our friend Anne-Marie at the Miller & Carter in Gosforth Park.

After a recommendation from my friend Laura we had all downloaded the Miller & Carter app which meant we received a complimentary glass of Prosecco with our meal and there’s other benefits including money off and freebies associated with the app – it’s free to download and is worth it!

I booked the table via the website and had requested a table suitable for Elsie’s pram and my request was no problem for the staff.

We were seated at a large booth with a wall dividing it from most of the other diners which meant it felt a bit more private and I could have the pram and Elsie’s bag and things spread out, without it being in the way of others.

Our waiter was really friendly and even arranged for a complimentary dessert for Catherine when we said we were celebrating her birthday which was an unexpected but lovely touch.

Again the food was delicious and I think I prefer the layout of the Gosforth Park restaurant which has a good free car park on site.

I really enjoyed both visits to Miller & Carter and I’m sure I will be back again soon!
