My overall thoughts on Deadly Vengeance
This is the second novel I’ve read in the DCI Jane Phillips series and this book did not disappoint.
I thoroughly enjoyed Deadly Vengeance which is a tense, and particularly towards the end, a fast paced moving investigation with several unexpected turns.
When teenager Hollie is kidnapped, Phillips and her team are called to investigate.
You can feel the tension building and with the pressure from several parties bearing down on Phillips and her team, to the point that it puts their lives at risk with potentially devastating consequences.
The story is mostly told from Jane’s point of view with small windows into Hollie’s experience.
Can Phillips and her team track down the kidnappers before it’s too late or will they get away with the ransom money and kill Hollie?
As Phillips and her team seek out clues to Hollie’s whereabouts politics is going on behind the scenes.
Phillips clearly has the respect of her team and they work well together and then Saxby of Met Police fame starts sticking his unwelcome oar in.
Hollie’s stepfather has a bad case of “Don’t you know who I am” syndrome and is more concerned about himself and his money than Hollie’s safety – an awful man.
I really enjoyed Deadly Vengeance – particularly the last few chapters. It was great to see the team investigate a missing person rather than a murder.
Deadly Vengeance is a great addition to the series and I look forward to seeing what Phillips and her team end up investigating next.
