My overall thoughts on Deadly Caller
Deadly Caller is the sixth book in the gripping detective series featuring DCI Jane Phillips and this is yet again another great read from OMJ Ryan.
A killer is on the loose that has DCI Jane Phillips and the team frantically trying to catch before they strike again and the formidable Fox is mounting the pressure on the whole department.
Deadly Caller opens with a bang – a man is killed during a video call with a client who hears his murder taking place but thankfully doesn’t see it and the pace doesn’t slow down.
OMJ Ryan really knows how to open a story, draw the reader in and keep them invested; as well as keeping up to date with what is going on in the world (such as the abundance of video calls we now make).
I really enjoyed this case and was happy to be back with the team.
We hit the ground running from the first few pages, the tension immediately building which reaches fever pitch in the lead up to its outcome.
This killer isn’t just sticking with one method of killing and is ramping up their spree and we see the team moving beyond Manchester to the capital in a bid to apprehend the suspect and keep their final victim alive.
It has been skillfully plotted and executed which I expect nothing less from OMJ Ryan.
As always, the recurring cast of characters are what makes this series such a success, they all bounce off each other well and have a real camaraderie.
There’s even new nickname for one of them which I quite like.
I loved seeing DCI Jane Phillips letting her guard down, showing the reader a more vulnerable side and we are introduced to a love interest – will things work out with Adam? I really hope so.
It is no secret that I absolutely love this series and Deadly Caller is once again another fantastic addition.
I sincerely hope there will be many more books to come as I’m seriously invested in DCI Phillips and her team.
