Back on track thanks to self-care time

I feel like a new woman after some self-care time and new hair!

The last couple of weeks have been testing to say the very least – thankfully I feel like I’m coming out the other side.

I’ve had a lovely break over Easter taking two days off work as holiday; as well as having Friday and Monday off as Bank Holiday’s and of course the weekend too.

I actually spent Wednesday and Thursday on my own as Steve was at work. It was actually just what I needed – some time for self-care.

Do you ever just need some time for yourself?

As many of you know, I was away at the beginning of March.

I had a disaster return journey with a delayed flight, an unexpected night in a hotel and returned home a day late.

I missed Mother’s Day and celebrating our anniversary.

Then I came down with an awful bout of food poisoning which left me feeling extremely fatigued for weeks.

On the plus side, I think I’ve lost some weight and Steve spent Mother’s Day with my Mam!

And thankfully I’m on the mend now.

So having last Wednesday and Thursday off was a real blessing and couldn’t come soon enough!

Wednesday I spent working on my blog giving it a spring clean with a fresh bright look and I got four blog posts drafted too.

Thursday was finally haircut day!

I’d had to cancel my appointment twice due to being snowed in and then being too ill to attend.

If you read my 30 things I’d like to do before I’m 30 post you’ll know I was torn between going darker or lighter.

After a chat with my new hairdresser we’ve got a plan and on Tuesday I had some subtle caramel highlights to just lift my hair.

As I’m growing out my hair Kirstie assures me will mix it up to stop me from getting bored and chopping it all off again!

I’m quite excited and I trust her judgement.

I spent Thursday as a bit of an indulgent pamper and a real self-care day.

I had an hour long bubble bath with my favourite beauty treats – in the middle of the day!

I had a long soak relaxing with my Kindle and then I had some of my favourite music playing with a candle to add to the ambiance.

I enjoyed a face mask and body scrub too. I felt so much more relaxed.

On Friday Steve and I were on a mission to the Metro Centre with baking goodies on the shopping list.

I decided Saturday was the day I would bake my very first cake and I actually did it!

With the help of Steve, I baked a milk chocolate ganache cake with white chocolate shards and mini eggs on top.

I don’t think it looks too shabby – what do you think?

I had a really lovely long weekend, spent with Steve, family and friends.

If you read my Easter family traditions post you’ll know that we had a Christening to attend followed by a family roast on Sunday and it was a special day.

We brush up ok don’t we?!

And finally I was able to have chocolate on Sunday and it was sooooo good to have it back in and around my face!

You’re never too old to get chocolate goodies on Easter from your mam and dad!

My mam’s Easter roast did not disappoint.

I enjoyed turkey and roast beef with all the trimmings with a slice of my milk chocolate genache cake for dessert.

Steve also bought me these gorgeous earrings too. I was thoroughly spoilt.

I think it’s really important to take some time out every now and again to look after yourself.
