30 things I’d like to do before I’m 30
This week I’m celebrating my 29th birthday – my last year in my twenties. For a while now I’ve kept a mental list of things I’d like to try to tick off before I reach the 30 milestone.
Here’s the 30 things I’d like to do before I’m 30
- Buy our forever home
- Spend more quality time with my husband (date nights, phone off that sort of thing)
- Spend more time with family (his and mine)
- More regular catch-ups with friends (nights out, nights in, coffee, mate dates)
- Grow my hair out
- Dye my hair – do I go darker or lighter?
- Lose weight
- Join a gym
- Host a dinner party with friends in our forever home
- Go ice skating outside
- Go to church more
- Pay off my credit card
- Eat a battered deep fried creme egg
- Go horse riding – I’ve never even sat on a horse
- Bake a cake (not a packet mix but a proper cake from start to finish)
- Do a digital detox for 24 hours (no phone, no social media, no Kindle, no iPad, no laptop)
- Donate blood (my appointment for my first donation was cancelled several times -not by me)
- Go glamping (maybe stay in a yurt?)
- Go on another girly holiday – even if it’s just a weekend away
- I’d like to do another professional qualification (masters, diploma, something to continue my professional development)
- Do something with my eyebrows (maybe some fancy HD brows)
- Run a 5K (not an obstacle course this time)
- Have afternoon tea at Betty’s Tea Room in York
Here’s some I’ve already ticked off:
- Become a fully qualified journalist ✔
- Learn to drive ✔
- Get married ✔
- Go snorkelling in the sea ✔
- Take a helicopter ride ✔
- Move back to the North East ✔
- Start to blog ✔

My aim is to do as much as I can off this list in the next year and I’ll try to blog as I go to keep you up to date.
Is there anything you think I should add to the list? Is there anything you’d like to do before your next big birthday? Let me know in the comments below.

Deep fried crème egg!!! I didn’t know that was even possible *rushes out to by a deep fat fryer* 😉
Yeah at Easter time a lot of fish shops offer them – I really want to try one. I’ve had a try of a battered mars bar and it was amazing!! Xx
Number 13 sounds interesting 😃
I really want to try one. When Easter comes round next year it’s my mission to find a fish shop that does them up here! I’ll blog on it of course.
Nice list… I want to pay my creidt card off too… maybe by 50🙈🙈🙈 nice read…😉
Mine might be by 50 too! 🙈
Except for spending time with your husband, I have the exact same list!
I love Bucket Lists. Although, I am a bit past 30…a bit. I think I will work on a 50 before 50 list!!
Do it! X
Love this. You’re more on board than me on my 21 things to do before 21. Best of luck.
What’s your link to your post Katie I’ll check it out? Thank you I’m gonna try to do as much as I can!! Xx
I haven’t written on on my list just yet but I will when I get nearer the day, look forward to sharing it x
I’ll definitely give it a read 😊
Girl, when I turned 30 I thought I had to do a ton of stuff as I was getting “old”. I’m now 40 and here are my lessons. 30’s are a thousand times better than your 20’s. Why? Because you have more money and you have more discipline to say no to yourself when it comes to more food, less sleep and more spending. Welcome your 30’s with open arm!
I’m looking forward to it 😊 lots of exciting things to come I am hoping x
Absolutely Rachael! Wouldn’t change it for the world. Now that I’m 40, I’m like God I hope the 40’s is even better than the 30’s. If not, I’ll jump off a bridge.
Haha let’s hope you’re right then!
As someone who is about to turn 30 (ah!) this post hit home for me. Great ideas! I need to make a list too! I wonder how much I can accomplish in a month!
It wouldn’t have to be before your birthday you could set it for whatever time you’d like. It’s a cool idea for pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and gives you something to aim for. Xx
Umm I NEED to do no.13 pronto. Also, come to Betty’s in Ilkley not York. It’s waaay better (but I am biased).
Haha nothing wrong with being biased! Yes do it. Mmmmm x
Love this! #17 – is so important. It is one of my favorite ways to give back! It takes relatively no time at all but you are saving lives.
I know I’ve not given blood yet as been cancelled several times so need to re-register up here and donate! 😊
Great list. I think one of m biggest goals is to pay my debt off, but that is going to take a few years!
Keep going. It’s difficult life is expensive x
This is such a brilliant list, there’s a real variety! Also the list of things you’ve already achieved in really good going as well!
Thank you 😊
I never thought to do a 30 year bucket list. Of course the final three years of my 20’s were such a whirlwind I didn’t have much time for reflection. The 20’s are fun, live it up, but know the 30’s are also so full of amazing opportunities!
I hope you’re right about the amazing opportunities x
I’m here and I can tell you, 30 super trumps 20 😉
Ah great stuff 👍🏻
I love this list 💕. Such a good idea, love having goals to work towards! Good luck completing this! 😘 xx

Thank you 😊
I think it spurs us on when we have goals that we want to achieve. I am sure that you will accomplish many of your wishes, Rachael. Good luck. 🙂
You’re totally right! Thank you so much 😊
Such a nice balance of fun/ life and family stuff here. I definitely think you’re more likely to do stuff when you’ve told the world about it too. Good luck getting them all done. And happy birthday!! 💕

That’s what I was aiming for! Thank you so much 😊
Happy Birthday for later on in the week! Good Luck with this list too!!
Thank you so much 😊
Lose some weight and joining a gym are also on my list! also I guess buying a house! Best of luck, I hope you achieve all of these! x corinne
Good luck with your list too 😊
Oooh congrats on the fact that you’ve already ticked off a few things from your list! You’re super organised. Have you ever thought of doing skydiving? Whenever I think of bucket lists, I think of that (although it’s a bit too scary for me haha). I’d love to go travelling a lot more before my next birthday and have more weekends away rather than just one big holiday.
Also, happy birthday!
I was asked this last night too. I’d maybe do it with a friend but I think I’d be really terrified to do it on my own! Thank you x
Horseback riding, I haven’t done that since I was prob 11 years old. Would love to do that again! I love list like this. Really motivating to keep moving forward as you cross things off! Hope you achieve all of them and more!
Happy Birthday!!!! BTW I think your layout is really awesome! Great job!
I’ve never really been near a horse so hoping my husband takes me he used to be really into horse riding. I hope to tick a lot off over the next year! Thank you so much 😊
Awesome list! I wonder what will be crossed off next 😛
Happy birthday 🙂
Thank you 🙂
This is just what I thought to do and this blog just justified if what I thought was right. Thanks Rachel.
Thanks for reading 🙂
Good luck! Some of these are really great goals. The afternoon tea sounds great 😊
Thank you 😊
Deep fried creme egg!? I’m not sure whether that sounds amazing or horrifying haha! These are all deffo achievable if you put your mind to it and I think you totally can! 🙂 I’m 21 now and would love to go skydiving and be self-employed living off my own income by the time I’m 25!

Thank you so much me too! x
Deep fried creme egg?! uhhhh yes please!!! I also want to do a digital detox, sometimes it’s so needed. My next birthday is my 30th too! My main goal was to pass my driving test which I did earlier this year, I think now it’s to find a job I love, and to make more of an effort with my blog!

I know I really want one! Congratulations on passing your driving test! Good luck with your goals x
Such a lovely list! I hope you achieve it all but my favourite item which I’ve added my to do list now is to eat a deep fried creme egg or perhaps a mars bar! Sounds very tasty!
I can’t wait to try the Creme egg! Thank you x
Go for it these are great goals 👏🏻 I too would like to stay in a yurt ⛺️ they look so fabulous ❤️
No 21 sounds awful, mind you the brows on the teenagers going to sixth form down the road from me probably coloured my view… caterpillars But Wow ticked off list “Go girl” no 1 yoy will unfortunately be in the minority if yoy crack that before 30. Good luck with your super ambitious list. But 15…. really go in to the kitchen and get her done! The simplest of ticks ever. Start with a mug cake in the microwave then progress. Pinterest has loads of mug cake recipes. I had my five year old grand son make his own a few years ago he is eleven now and just whips one up for a treat for his mum frequently. It is nce to be here, a good blog to visit.
I’m not sure if I’m brave enough for no 21 (might have to stick with pencil!) Might have to try the mug cake (I’ve seen loads of recipes on Pinterest like you say!). xx
Have fun but… ditch the brow I’ve not seen a good one yet 😂😃😱😲
“Dye my hair – do I go darker or lighter?”
You could do both! I go light in summer and a bit darker for winter.
Great idea! I dyed my hair on Monday (gone to the dark side) but think I will go lighter for the summer x
NO.23 is fun. We were taken there by a lovely couple we know. A treat for a kiwi couple 🙂
I haven’t been for years and haven’t had afternoon tea there! xx
this is such a well thought initiative ! Loved the idea… And I think I’m going to make a list for myself!
I was just going through your list and finding some things we have in common ( I really want to run a 5K! ) but I don’t think I’ll let anyone near my eyebrows hahahahaha!
Do it! It gives you something to focus on and little goals. I’m not sure if I’m brave enough for the eyebrow one. We will see!! Xx
This is a great list. I’ve been working on my 30 before 30 list for a while now and only have 8 – 9 months to go, so really need to plan out how I met going to do the rest!
Ooh hope you manage to tick more off! 👍🏻
This is a great list! I will be 27 in Feb. So I will be working on my list soon lol. I need to lose weight/ get healthier too. As far as baking a cake goes, I can give you some recipes if you’re interested. I love baking! Muffins / cupcakes are usually easier for me though.
Recipes definitely point me in the direction! 😊

A wonderful list indeed. It’s so important to have such lists, it gives us a sense of purpose and focus. All the best to you achieving everything off that list.
Thank you so much 😊
So I wonder how you are doing….you are a mere babe, Rachael! I love this list particularly the cream egg and the eyebrows (my daughter and her friends are obsessed with eyebrows). Cakes is something I am pretty good at – so if you need an easy recipe or some tips, just yell!!
An easy recipe would be amazing Claire! I’ll be doing an update in the next couple of weeks I think!! Xx
Will you send you a couple xxx
Thank you 😊
I wonder why so many of us are fixated on number 13?
