Ameda Finesse double electric breast pump review (AD)
I was kindly gifted the Ameda Finesse double electric breast pump in exchange for an honest review*.
As Elsie lost quite a bit of her birth weight we were advised by our midwives to introduce bottle top ups alongside breastfeeding; as well as using a breast pump to help establish and maintain my milk production.
I’ll share more in an upcoming blog post on our breastfeeding journey.
Fortunately the Ameda Finesse double electric breast pump arrived just in the nick of time. I had borrowed an older model from the community hospital but it was a single pump and not as powerful as this one.
What did I think of the Ameda Finesse double electric breast pump?
I found the Ameda Finesse double electric breast pump easy to use, assemble and clean.
There are no intimidating buttons or strange-looking parts on this pump.
Instructions are included and I found it easy to operate and simple to clean even with severe sleep deprivation!
As a first time, new mam struggling with feeding and lack of sleep the last thing I wanted to do is spend extra time trying to take apart all the pieces of a machine to make sure it is thoroughly cleaned.
There’s not much to take apart with this pump and assembly is straightforward.
The first time you use it you do have to do a really thorough clean including boiling certain aspects and then sterilising.
After this though it’s minimal fuss cleaning wise and we just used a cold water steriliser.
The pump has a closed system and a Proven Airlock Protection feature to safeguard your baby’s health by keeping bacteria, viruses and even mold away from the breast milk you are pumping.
A big pro is that this pump enables mums to pump one breast or both breasts simultaneously.
The suction and speed can be selected from multiple setting combinations, including functions that stimulate let down and then express. This means you can find a setting that works for you.
Because of the smaller sized bottles you only need one hand to pump and the bottles also stand in the unit when not in use, which is great for storage purposes.
The built-in bottle holders are a great feature because the bottles used with some pumps are easy to tip over and spill. I actually did this with the borrowed pump and I was inconsolable.
Believe me theres nothing more frustrating than going through the time and trouble of pumping, and watching all your hard work vanish right before your eyes when your collection bottle accidentally gets knocked over.
The pump is surprisingly not too noisy and its small size makes it great for mums who are on the go.
Another great feature is that you can use it with an AC power adapter or with batteries.
This pump is portable and lightweight, meaning you can take it with you on a trip or to work without any fuss.
The suction cups are comfortable but would be more so with cushioned inserts, and the product comes with only one size breast cup; other sizes need to be purchased separately.
All in all, I feel this is a good pump that I would highly recommended.
