Union Rooms Newcastle – review
After a refurbishment last year it was high time I paid a visit to the Union Rooms in Newcastle to try out the new menu.
The former Wetherspoon pub in Westgate Road was taken over by Cyclone Leisure and had a complete overhaul at the latter end of 2018.
Before we headed to the Utilita Arena to enjoy an evening with George Ezra we needed some fuel after a busy day at work. You can read all about the George Ezra gig here.

Eating at Union Rooms
Union Rooms is only a short walk away from the arena and with the weather being typical for March we hurriedly headed inside.

Union Rooms
It’s just a stone’s throw away from Newcastle’s railway station so an ideal place to grab a bite to eat before hitting the toon.
The hubby had already been following the takeover with his work lot in December and praised the food and new look.
I have to say the refurb looks great – it’s modern and cool as well as inviting.
We headed through to the garden room and were quickly shown to a table by a friendly waitress.
After a quick peruse of the menu we both plumped for burgers.
I opted for the cheesy buttermilk chicken burger (£10.95) which is boneless buttermilk fried chicken, salsa, lettuce, cheese sauce, toasted brioche bun, better battered onion rings with skin on fries and a coke.

The hubby chose the chicken club burger (£10.95) which is butterfly grilled chicken breast, smoked bacon, tomato, lettuce, smashed avocado, red onion, toasted brioche bun, beer battered onion rings with chunky hand cut chips and a lemonade.

My burger was so big I had to deconstruct it to eat it.
The chicken was lightly fried and succulent. I thought the accompanying coleslaw was crunchy and tasty.
I do love cheese and the cheese sauce was gooey and tasty!
As I’m not a fan of onion rings I left it untouched.
The bun was really lovely too and I ate every last bite.
My skin on fries hit the spot but I couldn’t resist stealing a very chunky chip from Steve’s plate – it was very good.
Steve polished off the lot of his meal and said it was really tasty so it’s a thumbs up from him too.
The whole meal set us back less than £30 – it was good food in nice surroundings and set us up for the evening to dance and sing along with Mr Ezra.
I’m sure we would return again to try the other offerings on the menu.

Onion rings!! This has made me hungry! Glad the food was nice, I’d have to deconstruct that burger to eat it too, there’s just no way to eat such a thing in a way that’s acceptable in public! xx
My thoughts exactly. It was really good though I would have it again! The pizzas they do look amazing so might have to try one of those next time.
