My overall thoughts on Too Damn to Give a Damn
If you’re craving sunshine, friendship and a reminder that life doesn’t stop being messy, sexy or surprising once you hit sixty, Too Glam to Give a Damn is exactly the escape you need.
I read Still Got It last year and absolutely loved it, so I went into this follow-up with high hopes—and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint.
While this can absolutely be read and enjoyed as a standalone, there’s something deeply satisfying about returning to Claire Carver’s world of confident, complicated women who refuse to fade quietly into the background.
At the heart of the story is the friendship between Sofia, Maddie and Charlotte—three women with very different personalities, bonded by thirty years of shared history stretching all the way back to their school days.
Their dynamic felt so authentic and familiar, reminding me strongly of my own friendships with two of my best friends from school, still going strong all these years later.
The banter, the unspoken understanding, the occasional frictio, it all rang beautifully true.
And then there’s the setting. Being whisked away to different Greek islands during the bleak, grey, cold days of January in the north east of England was an absolute treat.
Carver’s descriptions are so vivid I could practically feel the ocean breeze in my hair and taste the gloriously delicious Greek food on my tongue. Pure escapism at its finest.
There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, some steamy scenes, and others that are genuinely heart-warming.
As expected, Sofia brings her fair share of drama, but what I really loved was watching each woman go on her own emotional journey during this three-week adventure.
It’s not just about the holiday—it’s about reflection, reinvention, and having the courage to face truths you’ve kept hidden, even from the people who know you best.
Warm, funny and life-affirming, Too Glam to Give a Damn celebrates friendship, freedom and the idea that it’s never too late for a new chapter. Pour yourself a glass of something chilled, curl up somewhere cosy, and let this book transport you straight to the Greek sunshine.
