But when Sydney opens a forbidden door in the mysterious Whaler’s Wharf, she discovers the body of a producer—and a legion of unanswered questions. Who strangled the innocuous Caroline Cooper?
What dark force followed Brett and Justin from LA? Why is her boss Mike tense and double-checking every room at the inn?
And is Mirela really leaving P’town forever? Sydney and her boyfriend Ali need to find the answers fast before another victim takes a final bow.
My overall thoughts on The Matinée Murders
Although this book is part of a series I read this as a standalone story and was able to follow and enjoy it.
Actor and heartthrob Brett Falcone marries screenwriter Justin Braden during the Provincetown Film Festival.
Along with the nuptials, the newlyweds are also in town to attend several film screenings including a special screening of Falcone’s new movie “Revenge,” as well as being awarded the film society’s lifetime achievement award.
The main protagonist of the story is Sydney who is an event planner and magnet for murders.
Sydney and her partner Ali are invited to an impromptu gathering at the wharf’s best restaurant with the happy couple. And this is where the drama begins to unfold, when Sydney stumbles across a dead body in a locked staff bathroom.
The body count doesn’t stop there though, as movie heartthrob and newly married Falcone is bludgeoned to death and his husband looks set to take the fall.
Sydney is on the case to find out who is behind the murders but is she putting herself in the firing line?
I really enjoyed this murder mystery and was surprised to see a reference to Coronavirus social distancing which felt so strange as we’re currently living through it!
