My favourite self-care beauty treatments during self-isolation – Guest Post

15th April 2020 1 By Rachael Stray

Leo has kindly shared her favourite self-care beauty treatments during self-isolation in this latest guest post.

Hi everyone,

I’m going to be honest, I have the worst skin, like ever, I’m a twenty-six-year-old woman that still has acne I mean talk about awkward!

To be fair, for a long time I didn’t really try to do anything about it, I was always that one person that would spend forever looking in a mirror and just would pop and squeeze any and all spots I could find on my face – in the short term this is so exhilarating but in the long term this can cause further scaring and even more spots and blemishes.

In the last few months I have tried to get myself more into a skin care routine, which I’ll admit is difficult if you end up running late in the mornings or just are too tired in the evenings and you end up falling asleep before you use your night cream.

However, with isolation currently taking hold of our country as a result of the coronavirus I have decided to be more persistent and to win the fight when it comes to
my skin.

Right now? My skin in all honesty has never looked better, my face feels a lot more smoother, the bags under my eyes have decreased, I have no wrinkles, my blemishes and even black heads are slowly disappearing – I feel as if I’m no longer a sixteen year old girl, but actually a woman who has finally realised that beauty treatments are not necessarily girly but are in fact can be your greatest friend.

For this post today I am going to introduce you to 8 of my favourite beauty treatments that I genuinely use either on a daily or weekly basis. For some of these treatments I don’t actually know the prices or where they came from as they were gifts from family members at Christmas, the other treatments are items that I have spent my own money and would actually recommend to others who also have problem skin like me.

My favourite self-care beauty treatments during self-isolation

1) Herbal Essentials Toner, Cleanser and the Vintage Cosmetic Company Buff & Cleanse Brush

cleanser and toner

For these three items, I use them daily after I have had a shower and washed my face. I start with the cleanser and I use this with the brush which has helped to open my pores and to purify my skin and I do feel so refreshed and awake after using it.

I tend to brush in the cleanser for a few minutes, after I do my basic human needs like brush my teeth and get dressed allowing the rest of the cleanser to soak into my skin.

Once this has happened, I use the toner with a cotton pad, I mainly focus on the key areas of my face, such as the T-zone and around my cheeks and jawline.

Within the first week of using all three together on a daily basis, my skin has felt so smooth and my face does look a lot brighter – even my boss at work commented on the how fresher my skin looked, so it must work I guess!

2) T-Zone Charcoal Nose Pore Strip

nose strip

I am OBSESSED with pore strips, for someone like my who loves the concept of popping black heads, using one of these strips (which leaves zero marks or scars) is just the best thing ever! I mean, who ever started inventing these, thank you! They are super easy to use and effective in reducing the number of blackheads across your nose, which for me is a hot bed mess of pores and black heads.

All you have to do is wet your nose with cold water, make sure your nose is proper damp or else the strip can’t stick and doesn’t work. Once your nose is damp, all you must do is to place the nose strip across your nose, making sure you leave no air pockets and its all nice and secure.

Then all you do is leave it for 15 minutes – simple! After 15 minutes, you carefully peel the strip off the nose by the ends until it is fully off, and if you are like me you spend about 10 minutes looking at all the gooey black heads that have been ripped out. It’s so cool!

3) #6 Anti-Ageing Night Cream

anti aging cream

In one way it’s a little embarrassing to admit that at 26 I use anti-ageing night cream, but at the same time, we are all getting older and I would much prefer to age gracefully with the use of creams instead of spending thousands of pounds on Botox and being filled with so much plastic that you put the Kardashians out of business.

I’m 27 this year and I do think its important to think of the future, which is why I have started to use creams, there are so many you could buy, but my actual favourite is from the #6 range which you can buy in Poundland. Yes, you read that correctly, my night cream is from Poundland.

I also use the #6 day cream and even tissue mask – the quality of the night cream is
mind-blowing and is exactly the same as the No.7 range from Boots which is 10x the price.

The pot is big and filled to the brim with cream as well, so you get more for your money that’s for sure. After using the night-cream daily – just a general coating over the face – I have seen a reduction in the few laughter lines and wrinkles I did have. I even have my Nan and Mum using these creams and they also love it.

So sometimes you don’t need to excessively spend for creams and treatments, next time
check out your local Poundland.

4) L’Oréal Pure Clay Mini Masks

mini clay masks

These clay masks are just incredible, I honestly don’t have a favourite – I was actually gifted these on my Amazon wish-list and the pots themselves are pretty full, I’ve used these half a dozen times and I still have so much left, I’m definitely buying more when I run out.

On the back of the packet, you are given three different mask creations depending on what the needs are for your skin, such as; post- night out, de-stress and post-workout.

I’ve mainly used the de-stress mask creation whilst being in isolation and to be fair it has helped with my stress levels and anxieties with the uncertainties going on around the world.

When I use these masks, I use a make up brush to put the clay onto my face, once everything is on my skin, I leave it for about 10 minutes until dry.

Once dried I use a warm flannel to wash off the masks – they suggest to use these masks about 2/3 times a week which I have been doing and my anxieties are almost non-existent, so I would say these beauty treatments are doing wonders for my own self care during isolation.

5) Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Face and Eye Tissue Masks

tissue masks

I genuinely want to scream from the rooftops how much I am in love with the this range from Garnier, I am their no.1 fan, I have bought so many of these like those toilet roll hoarders from the supermarkets – that’s how much I love these treatments.

They are so easy to use, super effective and refreshing and they work wonders on your skin. They are the perfect companion for your evening self-care routine, I use the face mask first, just lay back and chill for 15 minutes, afterwards I use the eye mask and again I’m laying back and just relaxing.

These products are like having a facial at the spa without all the nose burning incense and weird music. If you are going to get any face masks – you NEED this range.

And in the words of Maui ‘You’re Welcome’.
