Chocolate truffle workshop at La Chocolatrice – review

Chocolate truffle workshop at La Chocolatrice – review

5th April 2026 0 By Rachael Stray

I recently enjoyed a chocolate truffle making workshop at La Chocolatrice so thought I’d share an honest review.

There’s something undeniably joyful about chocolate.

The smell, the taste, the nostalgia — it’s comfort and indulgence all wrapped into one.

So when I booked a truffle-making workshop at La Chocolatrice, I knew it would be fun… but I didn’t quite realise just how lovely the whole experience would be.

A choc-full 90 minutes

The workshop promises a relaxed, hands-on introduction to chocolate making — and that’s exactly what it delivers.

I arrived solo (slightly apprehensive, as most bookings are in pairs), but any nerves disappeared almost instantly.

Amy, our chocolatier for the session, welcomed me so warmly and made me feel completely at ease from the moment I walked in.

The space itself is gorgeous — playful, inviting, and very on-brand.

Think pink and purple tones, a large marble-topped workbench taking centre stage, one wall filled with quotes and photos, and another a flower wall with mirrors (perfect for those inevitable chocolate-making selfies).

I chose a pink apron (obviously), and once everyone had arrived — mostly in pairs, though I never felt out of place — we washed our hands, claimed our own hand towels, and gathered around the huge marble table.

Breaking the ice (with chocolate, of course)

We kicked things off by introducing ourselves and sharing our favourite chocolate — a simple but really nice touch that made the group feel instantly relaxed and connected.

And then… the fun began.

Making truffles, flakes & crisps

We started with pre-melted chocolate, choosing our own flavours to experiment with.

I went for orange — a classic — and mixed it with cream until it formed a smooth, rich paste.

There’s something oddly satisfying about this part. Slowing down, mixing, watching it come together, extremely mindful.

We then transferred the mixture into piping bags and piped out our truffles, which felt far more professional than I expected (even if mine weren’t perfectly uniform!).

Amy guided us through each step with ease — knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about what she does.

The extras (and there were plenty)

In between truffle-making, Amy demonstrated how to make peppermint chocolate crisps — which we all got to sample (and take home, thankfully).

We also enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate, which felt like the perfect mid-session treat.

Then came chocolate flakes — again demonstrated by Amy, then recreated by us.

There’s something quite magical about watching chocolate transform like that… and even better when you get to eat your own creations afterwards.

Once our truffles had set, we moved on to tempering chocolate — something I’d always assumed was complicated, but Amy made it feel completely doable.

We coated and drizzled our truffles, adding those final touches that make them feel properly indulgent.

The atmosphere

What really stood out was how relaxed the whole session felt.

There was no pressure, no rush — just a genuinely lovely, social atmosphere.

Despite arriving on my own, I was quickly included by everyone else, and it never once felt awkward.

Amy was a huge part of that.

She struck the perfect balance between guiding the session and letting us enjoy it, chatting away as we worked and making everyone feel comfortable.

And of course… there was a lot of chocolate.

Proper chocolate too — no palm oil, no unnecessary additives. Just good-quality, delicious ingredients.

The finishing touches

At the end of the workshop, Amy kindly took photos for us (a really thoughtful touch), before we headed over to the factory shop.

Workshop attendees get 10% off — even on sale items — which felt dangerous in the best way.

I couldn’t resist picking up a bag of giant milk chocolate buttons, plus a chocolate bunny lolly for Elsie (which went down very well).

Final thoughts

This was so much more than a workshop.

It was relaxed, welcoming, creative, and genuinely fun.

Whether you go as a pair, a group, or even solo like I did, it’s an experience that leaves you smiling (and with a lot of chocolate to take home).

At £47.50 for 90 minutes, it feels like a real treat — and one that’s absolutely worth it.

I’ll definitely be back to try another workshop.

Highly recommend.
