Allards Lounge – review
A catchup and lunch with one of my besties was well overdue so we decided to take advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and booked a lunch date at Allards Lounge.
Allards Lounge is a cafe and wine bar in Tynemouth and is somewhere we usually frequent for catch ups but it’s been ages since my last visit.
The Eat Out to Help Out scheme is running from 3 to 31 August where you get a 50% discount when you eat in at restaurants that are registered with the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. You can find participant restaurants near you here.
Because Catherine works weekends when I’m off I booked a day off work so we could have a good catchup and enjoy something to eat supporting an independent restaurant.
The last time we had a girly lunch was way back in February when we enjoyed Cote Brasserie in Newcastle.
Upon arrival there’s an automatic hand sanitiser which we used. The tables are set to well for social distancing.
There was a paper menu on our table as well as a card with QR codes which when scanned displayed the drinks, cocktails and food menus.
We both plumped for some picky bits rather than one large main.
I plumped for tempura prawns, sweet potato fries and Thai crispy beef salad.
Catherine opted for tempura prawns and sweet potato too as well as halloumi with chorizo.
The tempura prawns were huge and the accompanying chilli dip had a good kick to it.
I’m a big fan of sweet potato and these fries were delicious – crispy and not too sweet. The feta was a nice added touch.
The salad was really fresh and tasty with lots of crunch.
Catherine decided to just have a coffee but I couldn’t resist a sweet treat.
With no cheesecake I plumped for the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream. It was really lovely.
It was so good to have a bit of normality – a gossip and enjoying food at a restaurant.
Of course we were careful ensuring social distancing measures and good hygiene during our visit because Covid-19 is still here and we have to do our bit to reduce the risk of spreading this awful disease.
I was really impressed with the safety measures Allards have put in place. The staff were all really friendly and attentive and we felt safe.
Our bill came to just over £30 so £15 each is a bargain! I was absolutely stuffed and didn’t need any tea that night.
