Achellos Italian Restaurant – review
I spent my remaining flexi time wisely catching up with friends and enjoying good food before my maternity leave started and I finally got to try out Achellos Italian Restaurant.
Achellos is just a short walk from my childhood home in Fenham, Newcastle and I’ve been meaning to go since they opened!
The time finally came as I had a lunch date planned in with one of my best friends.
I’ve been friends with Kellie since we were about 11-years-old when our mam’s met in the street and set us up to be friends who would walk to secondary school together, and the rest as they say, is history.
We’ve got a low maintenance kind of friendship where we aren’t in each other’s pockets but when we do see each other it’s like no time has passed at all.
Anyway, Kellie is a busy working mammy so we’d scheduled our lunch date a couple of weeks in advance.
I tied in lunch with checking in on my little brother as my parents were away on holiday and he was home alone.

I arrived first and bagged us a table. The restaurant is really spacious and tastefully decorated.
As Fenham is Quaker Land, they do not have an alcohol licence but you can bring your own booze with you.
This wasn’t an issue for us as neither of us were able to have a drink anyway!
As it had been MONTHS since we’d last had a catch up Kellie had brought along my birthday presents which was a lovely surprise.
After ordering drinks, Coke for both of us.
We had a good chinwag about pregnancy and upcoming plans and it was just really lovely.
Eventually we picked up our menus. Kellie is quite a regular and said we should go all out and treat ourselves.
So we decided to go for the three course lunch time special which is available Monday to Thursday 12-6pm, Friday 12-5pm and Saturday 12-3pm.
For my starter I had crispy potato skins served with garlic mayo and chilli sauce.

Kellie plumped for the funghi all’ aglio, pan fried mushrooms cooked with garlic butter and fresh parsley
For our main courses Kellie had penne bologna which is their rich homemade beef ragu sauce.
I had my favourite lasagne.

We both plumped for vanilla ice creams for dessert.

The food was really tasty and good value for money, £6.95 for three courses – you can’t go wrong! (Prices for 2019 please check their website for updated costs.)
I was absolutely stuffed and we had a lovely couple of hours catching up.
All the staff were friendly and attentive but didn’t pester us as it was obvious we had a lot to catch up on!

Oh wow that food looks amazing! I love to try new places, especially when I am on the road. I will have to try this one out next time I’m in town.
It was lovely and such good value
Aww the friendship you have with Kellie sounds like one of those rare ones, friends from age 11 and still going strong now even though life has changed so much. That’s so nice to read! And this place looks lovely. I’m not really an Italian food kind of gal but the potato skins and ice-cream look yum, yes please!
Caz xx
I love the sound of your crispy potato skins starter, Rachael.😊 In fact, your whole lunch looks delicious!
You always find a fresh perspective o e everything! oh so yummy sounding…
Those potato skins look delicious. In the states they are always loaded down with cheese and bacon and a ton of other stuff.
