My five intentions for 2021
After a really challenging year, 2020 I’ve decided to set five intentions for 2021.
Now I say intentions because as we all know because of covid that plans have just gone out the window at the drop of a hat or the u-turn of the Government.
But I want to try to stay positive, motivated and be kinder to myself which is why I’ve set five intentions for 2021.
My five intentions for 2021
Make more memories
I really love the idea of filling a jar with memories over the year, which you then empty out on New Year’s eve to look back on what a great year it was, even if it was such a challenge like 2020!
So this year I am going to start putting little notes of happy memories into an empty jar so we can do that on New Year’s eve.
And to make sure we have that the jar is as full as possible we will have to make memories!
We still managed some lovely little days out in 2020 to the beach, Beamish, Ignite at Gibside and to Northumberland County Zoo so I am sure we can manage more in 2021.
Work from home, not live at work
I returned to work following maternity leave properly in May 2020 albeit it mostly from home.
The balance wasn’t right for most of the year though and it all came to a head in the run up to Christmas, I really felt like I was living at work rather than working from home.
I spoke to my husband, my friends and the occupational health team at work to put together a plan on how to put boundaries in place and restore the balance.
This year I think working from home will continue (perhaps not full time) so I want to make sure I follow my own advice to work from home well and to continue to set boundaries and switch off.
Be more mindful and try to practice meditation
After a really challenging 2020 I think most of us have had struggles with our mental health.
To try to make sure I look after my mental health better, I want to try to be more mindful and practice meditation.
I feel really inspired to try to practice meditation after reading My Mind Won’t Shut Up!
Be more present and have less screen time
Have you checked your screen time lately?
Mine is horrendous.
I really want to try to be more present and have less screen time this year, I want to make memories and not do doomscrolling!
So I will try to be better at putting my phone down, especially on weekends when it’s family time.
Self care isn’t selfish so do it more often
And lastly it’s so important to remember that self care isn’t selfish and try to do it more often.
Towards the end of the year I got better at sticking to self care Sunday as this is the one night a week that Steve usually does the night-time routine with Elsie.
I want to make sure that this year I put aside more time for my own self care, it’s just so important for my mental health and wellbeing.
