My Mind Won’t Shut Up! Meditation For People Who Don’t Meditate book blurb

Realistic, cheeky and easy-to-read, My Mind Won’t Shut Up! is a book that challenges meditation myths.

It’s for ordinary, stressed out people with money worries, weird families and haemorrhoids.

Written by two sturdy-legged Glaswegians with short attention spans, My Mind Won’t Shut Up! is aimed at anyone who is curious about meditation but turned off by anything too woo-woo.

It is not a spiritual journey, and it won’t make you better at kung fu.

It will help you be kinder to yourself, stop you from spinning out and make you less prone to emotional wobbles.

My overall thoughts on My Mind Won’t Shut Up! Meditation For People Who Don’t Meditate

A really good and often humorous read.

The book is broken down into different chapters so you learn what meditation is and why it’s good for you, different types of meditation techniques and some techniques of how to deal with your mind wandering off and those barriers to meditation.

Chapter three covers different types of meditation.

Number two sounds appealing – walking.

I think this is something that you could incorporate quite easily into your day – walking to the bus stop, walking to put the kettle on in the kitchen and so on.

I like the use of pull out quotes and cartoon style drawings which are littered throughout the book.

Single focus body scan – we did this at the end of our baby yoga classes and it really made me feel relaxed and ready to take on the day so I’ll give this a go myself.

Positive connection meditation – friendliness for all.

This sounds a bit of a challenge for me but I’d like to try it out.

Gratitude is something you hear a lot about but I’d never associated it with meditation before.

Being kind to yourself, this is one I really struggle with but again I will try it out.

At the end of the book is a really useful resources section of books, apps, websites and podcasts.

This is the kind of book you want to refer back to, especially if you’re having a particular tough time which I think many of us have endured during 2020!

I had some real mental challenges in 2020 and I don’t want 2021 to be the same, so I’ll be taking the tips from My Mind Won’t Shut Up and trying meditation techniques for myself.

A huge thank you to Trigger Publishing for sending me this book I’m hoping it will help me have fewer emotional wobbles!
