10 self care ideas during social isolation
With many of us spending more time at home than ever before we must remember to have some me-time too, so I thought I’d share some self isolation self care ideas.
Please remember that self care isn’t selfish, it’s important that you take time to look after your mental health as well as your physical health.

Purge your wardrobe and have a good de-clutter of your home it’s so cathartic. You can bag up your clothes for charity or organise a collection with Enviroclothes where you’ll earn some cash as they buy your unwanted clothing, soft toys, shoes and accessories, and redistribute them for reuse – waste not want not as they say! Here’s my 10 tips to help declutter your home.
Take the time to curl up with a good book. You can get physical books from many online book stores and there’s even subscription services such as Reading in Heels. I also keep my Kindle up to date using Bookbub where you can tailor a daily email of cheap and even free books to genres that you like.
Write your post-lockdown bucket list of all the things you want to do when normality returns.. Which restaurants do you want to eat at, where do you want to go for a catch up with friends or a date night? Creating this bucket list will give you lots of lovely things to look forward to. I’m a big fan of a bucket list, here’s how I got on with my 30 things before 30 bucket list.
Have a bubble bath accompanied by soothing music, your favourite products and a nice scented candle.
Keep up a good skincare routine. Even though I’m barely leaving the house I’m not neglecting my skin. I am alternating between a cream cleanser and a gentle scrub and following this with Garnier Micellar Water morning and night. I’m applying eye cream and day and night moisturiser too. I’m also trying to do facemasks a couple of times a week too.
Try meditation and mindfulness. The Headspace App has 10 free sessions to try before you buy. Or if you have an iPhone you can try this Forest app where you can earn coins through meditation for certain amounts of time, and then you can spend them planting trees in real life. Here’s some relaxation and mindfulness apps which you can download on your phone or tablet
Have a virtual coffee or wine catch up with friends and family. Think about how you can stay in touch with friends and family while you’re at home – by phone, messaging, video calls or online – whether it’s people you usually see often, or reconnecting with old friends or neighbours.
Lots of people are finding the current situation difficult, so staying in touch could help them too.
I have a few WhatsApp group chats on the go and I’m regularly checking in with family and friends.
We invested in a Facebook portal so we video chat with mine and Steve’s parents as much as we can.
Open the windows in your home and let the air flow throughout the house. Honestly it really does make a difference especially if you’re not able to go for a walk or get out of the house at all.
Spruce up your garden and get a free workout – plant some flowers or create a vegetable garden and then you’ve got a relaxing outside space to enjoy throughout the warmer months.
Deep clean your house (not all at once – set a realistic schedule) and keep on top of any clutter. A cluttered room makes my anxiety worse so having a good through clean will not only take up some time but also make your home feel a lot nicer.

I love these ideas, thanks for sharing Rachael! The post-lockdown bucket list is such a positive suggestion, I definitely miss going out for lunch with my parents, that is something I am most looking forward to 🙂 A relaxing bath with music and candles sounds blissful, and the perfect way to wind down and relax in the evening.
