My overall thoughts of Her Last Whisper

This is an excellent and exhilarating read from start to finish. Although it’s part of a series I read this book as a standalone and it’s easy to jump straight in with Detective Katie Scott.

I was engrossed from the first page and devoured the book in just two days.

The plot for Her Last Whisper is harrowing – women being attacked from behind, knocked unconscious, blind folded and taken to an unknown location. The kidnapper rarely speaks to them except to ask his victims to ‘tell him the truth’.

The chapters are primarily from Katie’s perspective but there’s also some dedicated to the suffering of the last victim and a look inside the warped mind of the killer himself; I always enjoy these extra insights as it immerses you in the whole story that little bit more.

I had to keep reading just another page, another page, as everything raced towards a high tension ending which left me wishing there was more because it had been so good.

Jennifer narrows the field of investigation with every chapter making me feel that Detective Scott was closing in.

The book is filled with twists, turns, and red herrings which kept me on the edge of my seat, I particularly liked the little snippets from the kidnappers perspective – he comes across as calculating and unhinged.

I really enjoyed this book and I think it’ll be a fantastic series – Detective Katie Scott has much more to bring to the table.

Jennifer Chase is a multi award-winning and best-selling crime fiction author, as well as
a consulting criminologist. Jennifer holds a bachelor degree in police forensics and a
masters degree in criminology and criminal justice.
