My overall thoughts on Deadly Little Lies
Deadly Little Lies is one of my favourite books of 2021 so much so I have given it five stars.
It is a gripping thriller that had me hooked from the get go and I absolutely devoured it.
Juliana (Jules) Daniels is living her best life in New York with her attentive husband, she’s climbing the ladder at her firm as an attorney but she’s harboured a dark secret which she thought was long buried in the past until an email threatens to destroy everything she’s worked so hard for.
How can Jenny send her an email, she’s dead?
What ensues is a trip down memory lane that Juliana would rather not happen but if she doesn’t confront her past how can she have a future?
It definitely has Pretty Little Liars and Mean Girl vibes.
The plot is told in alternating chapters that go back and forth between Jules’ college years and the events in the present.
We get to see how Jules crumbled under peer pressure at college desperately seeking validation and approval of Mean Girl Queen Bee Emily and losing sight of who she really is.
The tension builds as Jules reconnects with her former best friends from her college days as they are all being targeted with these emails – can they confront their past and protect their futures?
The final few chapters see the four former friends confronting more than just their memories when they return to College and are faced with impending peril.
Thoroughly enjoyed Deadly Little Lies despite not really liking any of the characters at all!
