Daniel’s Fun Farm – review

Daniel’s Fun Farm – review

29th May 2022 0 By Rachael Stray

We had our first visit to Daniel’s Fun Farm in Wylam so thought I’d share an honest review.

As part of my five intentions for 2022 I want to make more memories and spend quality time with my little family.

With a sunny Saturday ahead and no plans we decided to finally pay a visit to Daniel’s Fun Farm after seeing good reviews on social media and a recommendation from one of Steve’s work colleagues.

About Daniel’s Fun Farm

Daniel Farm is a working farm based in the village of Wylam, Northumberland, approximately ten miles from the centre of Newcastle and Gateshead.

Set in the beautiful Tyne Valley with its rolling hills and ancient woodlands, the farm is a traditional, 16th-century structure that was once part of the historic Bradley Hall estate.

Daniel’s Fun Farm opened in Summer 2021 and since then they have continued to grow their animal variety and will continue to improve and add new additions as they go.

There’s also a garden centre, tea room and farm shop on the site.

What does your Daniel’s Fun Farm ticket include?

Wristbands last all day which means you can stay as long as you like.

Upon arrival you will receive a wrist band which entitles you to an unlimited full day of play.

The newly constructed areas create an easy flow path starting within the soft play (entrance via farm shop), indoor museum.

Then go back through the Farm Shop to find the newly added indoor Barn Soft Play area.

Here there’s giant inflatables, tractor ride ons, electric go-karts and wrecking balls.

Once finished here you can visit the animals and feed them, there’s also a large outdoor play park, giant sand pit and pedal go karts.

Our visit to Daniel’s Fun Farm

I booked our visit and paid for our tickets via the Daniel Farm Shop & Tearoom website and secured an 11am time for our arrival.

For the three of us it cost £28.35 including a small booking fee.

Daniel’s Fun Farm is about a 25 minute drive from our home in County Durham and what a stunning journey we had.

We arrived shortly before 11am and secured a parking space in the main car park.

There’s ample free parking on site and an overflow car park for those really busy days.

We made our way through to the farm shop where a kind butcher told us where we needed to go for the Fun Farm.

A lady at the ice cream/café area welcomed us and ticked us off the electronic list.

Steve and I were given our Daniel’s Fun Farm green wristbands which allows you access for the whole day.

Outside fun at Daniel’s Fun Farm

We made our way outside in search of the animals passing by the tractors and other farm vehicles.

For the first hour I’d say we had the place almost to ourselves which allowed Elsie to explore and settle in.

We bought a bag of animal feed when we arrived for £1 so headed straight to feed the animals.

Elsie was thrilled to see chickens and pigs in particular.

As we made our way round the animals we came to a large sandpit which has buckets and spades, deck chairs and dumper trucks for you to enjoy.

Elsie was in her element she loves the sandpit at nursery.

After the sandpit we headed to the play park and Elsie mastered how to climb up and the slide – she wasn’t feeling brave enough to go over the other bridges to the other side.

At about 12ish we finally managed to prise Elsie away from the play park with the promise of a picnic.

Lunch at Daniel’s Fun Farm

There’s some picnic tables and some cool tractor higher tables outside as well as two eating areas inside.

You’re welcome to bring a picnic in the Fun Farm but you’re only permitted to have food and drinks bought from the tea room on that part of the site which seems more than fair.

Steve went off to the tea room to buy something for us to eat and I got Elsie set up for our picnic.

We bagged a picnic table with an umbrella which kept the sun off us as it was a gloriously sunny day and we were pleased to have some shade.

After about 15 minutes, Steve returned with a bag of goodies for us – a cheese and ham panini for me and a sausage cheese and red onion chutney one for him, with accompanying salad and some ready salted crisps in foil trays.

Once we’d finished eating, we cleaned up and popped to the toilets before exploring the play barn.

The toilets were clean but quite small. There’s also a baby changing station but it’s quite tight.

As you’d expect, there’s lots of hand sanitiser stations dotted around and a sink with a little step for children next to the picnic tables. This was tidied up when we were eating but I didn’t manage to get another photo.

Inside play areas at Daniel’s Fun Farm

The play barn wasn’t too busy and Elsie couldn’t believe her eyes at the soft play inflatables and the tractor ride ons to play on.

She gained confidence in bouncing and climbing up the slide.

We also had a go on the Farmula One track on the pink motorbike.

And then we headed back through the farm shop to the other inside play area.

Elsie went on the train but didn’t like it, so that was £1 well spent.

Then she went into the soft play area with Steve and enjoyed the slide the most.

After a short while of playing inside we headed back out to the sandpit.

Elsie also enjoyed the play park again before we went inside for ice cream, mint choc chip for Steve, Eton Mess for me and Cornish vanilla for Elsie (which she didn’t eat much of).

After another mooch inside we decided at about half past three to make our way home.

We really enjoyed our visit to Daniel’s Fun Farm and we were blessed with some beautiful weather.

There’s some small rides inside which only take £1 coins so make sure to take some change with you!

We didn’t do any of the arts and crafts which we’d do on a return visit I think.

I’d also take a look at the timetable for the day and try to do some of the activities this is also shared on their Instagram.

I would also like to visit the tea room!

We had such a lovely day and we would definitely return.
