Chub Rub Shorts: The Holiday Essential I Didn’t Know I Needed
As a curvier gal with thick thighs, chub rub has unfortunately been one of those things I’ve had to think about when getting dressed in the summer so investing in decent chub rub shorts has been a gamechanger.
A few years ago, I finally invested in my first pair of chub rub shorts from Snag Tights after buying and loving a pair of tights.

I went for a hot pink pain, because if I was going to be wearing shorts under my dresses, they might as well be cheerful ones.

I fully intended to report back on whether they were actually worth the hype.
And then… I didn’t.
Fast forward a few years and I now own five pairs.
So, I think it’s probably time I told you what I actually think of them.
The Original Stay Cool Chub Rub Shorts
The ones I have are the Original Stay Cool Chub Rub Shorts, which are designed to be an everyday anti-chafe short.

They’re made with cooling yarn, moisture-wicking stretch fabric and a soft waistband that is supposed to stay put. They’re also available in a huge range of colours and sizes, from UK 4–36.
But, honestly, the specifications weren’t really what convinced me to buy them.
I wanted something that would stop my thighs rubbing together without making me feel even hotter.

And after wearing them for the last few years, I can safely say they’ve become one of those things I don’t really want to be without in the summer.
Do they actually stop chub rub?
Yes. Absolutely.
There’s nothing worse than heading out in a lovely summer dress or skirt only to spend the rest of the day walking like John Wayne because your thighs have decided to start a disagreement.
If you know, you know.

These shorts create a barrier between your thighs, meaning there’s no skin-on-skin rubbing. And for me, they genuinely work.

I’ve worn them plenty of times here in the North East when temperatures have crept into the mid-20s, and they’ve made such a difference.
But I really wanted to put them to the test somewhere properly hot.
Testing them in Mallorca
Our recent trip to Mallorca was our first family holiday abroad, so naturally I packed five pairs of chub rub shorts into my suitcase.
I wore them every evening in temperatures of 30+ degrees, usually underneath dresses, and I was genuinely impressed.

My biggest concern was that I’d spend the evening feeling like I was wearing an extra layer of clothing.
But I didn’t.
They actually kept me cool
The Original Stay Cool shorts use cooling yarn which is designed to help keep you cooler than standard fabric, and I could definitely tell the difference compared with some of the cheaper anti-chafing shorts I’ve tried in the past.
Even in the Mallorca heat, I didn’t feel sweaty or uncomfortable.
And, perhaps most importantly, they didn’t ride up or dig in.
This is a big one for me.
There is nothing more irritating than constantly having to discreetly pull your shorts back down while you’re trying to enjoy your holiday.
These stayed where they were supposed to.
Five pairs later…
I think the fact that I now own five pairs probably tells you everything you need to know.
They’re not exactly the most glamorous addition to your holiday wardrobe, but they have given me so much more confidence when wearing dresses and skirts.

I don’t have to think about whether my thighs are going to rub.
I don’t have to worry about being uncomfortable halfway through the day.
And I don’t have to avoid wearing something just because it’s hot.
For me, that’s what makes them worth the investment.
Would I recommend them?
Yes.
If you’re someone who experiences thigh chafing, I honestly think a good pair of chub rub shorts is worth having in your wardrobe especially as we are now having more heatwaves here in the UK.
I’ve had my original pair for a few years now, and they’ve survived plenty of summer days, holidays and general wear.
The fact I’ve gone from one pair to five probably says more than any review could.
And after wearing them every evening in 30+ degree Mallorca heat, I’m even more convinced.
They’re comfortable, they stay put, they help keep you cool and, most importantly, they stop the dreaded thigh chafing.
Sometimes the best summer purchases aren’t the pretty ones.
Sometimes they’re the things that let you wear the pretty dress without spending the whole day worrying about your thighs.
And for me, chub rub shorts are definitely one of those things.
