An open letter to my daughter on her first day of school (Year 2)

This is an open letter to my daughter Elsie, on her first day of school (Year 2).

Last year I shared my open letter for your first day of Year 1, and before that your first day of reception, so it feels really special to keep this tradition going.

Dear Elsie,

Today, the summer holidays have come to an end and it’s your very first day of Year 2!

It’s hard to believe that this time two years ago you were just starting school in reception. Now you’re heading into Year 2 – how is time flying by so quickly?

You’ve had a fantastic summer holidays spending time with Nanna and Grandad exploring the North East.

You’ve had trips to the beach, the cinema and even the circus.

You spent a week in Skegness with Nanny and Pops, had a week with both Mammy and Daddy, and of course our holiday together too. What a summer of memories!

Your uniform is ready, your bag is packed, and you look so grown up and full of confidence.

Over the past year we’ve seen you flourish even more – your reading has gone from strength to strength, your writing is improving, and your imagination never stops amazing us.

You have such a kind and caring nature, and it’s wonderful to see how much joy you get from your friendships and from being part of your school community.

I know you’re excited to meet your new teacher, get stuck into new topics and continue your learning adventure. I’m certain Year 2 will bring you even more opportunities to shine.

Whatever the year brings, remember how proud we are of you every single day.

I can’t wait to hear all about your first day in Year 2.

Love always,
Mammy xxx
