An open letter to my daughter on her first day of school (reception class)

This is an open letter to my daughter Elsie, on her first day of school (reception class).

I wanted to mark this milestone moment as we all embark on this new chapter as a family together.

Dear Elsie,

Today is the day we’ve been talking about for a while now, your first day at school!

It’s the beginning of a long adventure of learning and meeting new friends and I’m so excited for you.

Your bag is packed, everything has been labelled and you look so smart in your new uniform.

I wanted to say how proud I am of the little girl that you have become.

I’ve watched you grow from a tiny baby into this independent, strong-willed, caring and kind big (but still little) girl.

Saying goodbye to your nursery teachers and friends was definitely harder for me and daddy than it was for you, as it should be.

Today marks the start of a new journey of discovery, and you are so ready for it!

I know you are so excited for school and that you will enjoy getting to know your new teacher, seeing familiar friends and making new ones.

Although you’re nervous I know you are so ready for the new challenges that await you.

I’m certain you will thrive, make new friends, enjoy new pastimes, and mammy and daddy couldn’t be  prouder of you.

I know you can be shy with new people and places, but I am confident that you will love school once you get over these initial nerves.

I’m looking forward to hearing all about your first day at school later.

Love always,

Mammy xxx
