Afternoon Tea at Lanchester Garden Centre

Afternoon Tea at Lanchester Garden Centre

9th February 2020 3 By Rachael Stray

To celebrate my birthday and a catch up with my friend Farrah we had lovely Afternoon Tea at Lanchester Garden Centre.

I really like Lanchester Garden Centre and have been a few times since we moved up to the North East.

It’s only a short drive from our home and has ample free parking.

Farrah drove to my house and after a little playtime with Elsie we got ourselves sorted and I drove us to Lanchester Garden Centre.

It’s an independent garden centre and as well as the usual stuff you’d expect such as plants and so on; it also has Potters Tropical Village which is a registered Zoo, Potters Owl adventures which is a birds of prey centre and Potters Play Tunnel, an aquarium and the very popular Greenhouse Restaurant.

We headed straight to the restaurant to bag a table; as I’ve waited 25 minutes to be seated before. Fortunately we were swiftly shown to a large round table with plenty of room for Elsie’s pram.

The restaurant is large and the chairs are really comfy, the views out to the garden if you’re lucky to sit near the large windows and doors are stunning. You’re also not squished next to other diners which is good.

There’s a really good choice of food on the menu including:

  • Home cooked food
  • Afternoon teas
  • Sunday lunches
  • Breakfast
  • Light bites
  • Takeaway treats

We decided we deserved a treat and opted for Afternoon Tea – they have three options for this which is brilliant. We plumped for the classic Afternoon Tea which is £12.95 per person and you have the choice of:

Drinks – Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Pepsi Max or Lemonade

Choice of Sandwich
1 choice of sandwich per person served on white or brown farmhouse bread
Hand Carved Ham & Coarse Grain Honey Mustard, Mature Cheddar Cheese & Chutney, Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Rocket, Free Range Egg Mayonnaise, Tuna Mayonnaise & Cucumber, Prawn Mayonnaise & Rocket, Coronation Chicken & Lettuce

Fruit Scone, Clotted Cream and Jam

Choose 1 from each of the following:
Cream Cakes: Chocolate Éclair, Cheesecake, Fresh Cream Meringue, Vanilla Slice
Tarts: Mixed Chocolate, Strawberry, Glazed Fruit, Key Lime
Tray Bakes: Tiffin, Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate dipped Flapjack, Caramel Shortbread

I chose the prawn mayonnaise and rocket sandwich on white farmhouse bread, chocolate Éclair, strawberry tart and chocolate brownie and of course had the fruit scone, clotted cream and jam.

As usual I started off with a lovely hot chocolate and while we waited for the tasty treats to arrive we had a good catch up.

After a short wait the Afternoon Tea was served and I was impressed with the amount of food for the price and we even had to take some home with us!

We started off with the bottom layer – sandwiches. Mine was really tasty and the accompanying salad was really fresh.

Next we tackled the fruit scone which was well baked and I did not scrimp on the clotted cream or jam! I always do jam first with cream on top, how do you like yours?

I devoured the eclair which was absolutely delicious but saved the strawberry tart for Steve to have at home which was kindly boxed up for me.

The food was really tasty and good quality and I think the price is really fair for what you get.

I would definitely have Afternoon Tea at Lanchester Garden Centre again.
