5 useful apps for bloggers
I often get asked which apps are useful for bloggers so I thought I’d share my favourite five with you.
WordPress App
First of all I would be absolutely lost without the WordPress app which I use waaay too often to reply to comments, tweak a post, and check my stats.
It’s really easy to use and I have it on my Ipad and my phone so it’s always accessible.
I like to write my blog posts on my laptop but I find it easier to add the pictures using my phone.
Once a month I update my stats on the contact/work with me page and I do this really quickly using my phone.
Social media apps
Social media is really important for bloggers not only to of course promote your own blog but to interact and learn from other bloggers.
I use the Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr and Flipboard apps to do exactly this.
According to my screen time analysis social media is a big proportion of how long I spend on my phone!
I really enjoy watching other people’s stories on Instagram and finding out new places to visit in my native Newcastle and generally catching up with other bloggers too.
It’s all worthwhile time spent on social media I promise!
Canva
I create my blog cover headers and my pin this images using Canva.
The app is super handy and quick to use too.
I create the main photos for each of my blog posts using Canva.
Sometimes these pictures are ones I’ve taken and other times it might be free to use stock photos.
Here’s my five favourite sites for stock photos.
If Canva isn’t your bag here’s 5 other tools to create infographics.
Hootsuite
I schedule my Twitter posts using Hootsuite which means I don’t have to always be on Twitter promoting my posts.
The app is easy to use and I just have the free version. You can get more features if you use the paid for one but I manage just fine.
You simply pick the day and time that best suits your needs. You can then view scheduled posts in an easy-to-read calendar format.
Hootsuite allows you to connect and manage accounts from 35 different social media platforms, including the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
You can easily upload images too which is handy.
Here’s 4 other free Twitter scheduling tools you might find useful.
Lightroom
I’d recommend using a photo editing app – I personally really like Lightroom – especially when the darker nights are drawing in and natural light isn’t in abundance.
It’s free but you can pay for extras but I find the free tools do exactly what I need to improve my pictures.
Here are just some of the things you can use Lightroom for:
- Image compression (make your images load faster when uploaded to your blog)
- Image management (organize your photos in one place)
- File conversions (convert your raw files to jpeg, png or whatever you need)
- Keeping best image quality (no matter the format)
- Retouching (to make your images look exactly like pro bloggers)
- + so much more!

I didn’t realise there was an app until another blogger told me. It’s really handy for just making small tweaks or replying back to comments while you’re on the go.
These are great! I love Canva! I didn’t realize there was a free Lightroom app! I have to get that!
Definitely recommend Lightroom 😊
Thanks for sharing your recommendations, Rachael! The WordPress App is so handy, like you say it’s great for tweaking a post at the last minute or reading comments. I spend wayyy too much time on the social media apps ha ha! I really need to check out Hootsuite, it sounds so handy and a great way to spend less time on your phone. Fab post! <3 xx

I’m gonna have to try Canva. Another good one I’d suggest is Over. Great little image/graphics assembly app.

Canva is my favorite. I love getting creative and time always flies when I’m creating images. I have photoshop but I’ve been looking for a free app to compress files that I can recommend to others. I will definitely check out Lightroom.
I’ve been using Canva for years, but I just downloaded the actual app on my phone this week!
How are you finding the app?
So easy to use I’m kick g myself for not doing it sooner!
