5 Beauty Essentials for Going Abroad – Sunny Edition
After coming back from our recent sunny getaway, I thought I’d share the five beauty essentials products that I genuinely couldn’t have been without.
From keeping my lips protected from the sun to preventing the dreaded thigh chafe, these are the products that earned their place in my suitcase.
There’s something about getting ready for a sunny holiday that makes me want to buy all the beauty products.
Even though I try not to overpack, there are a few things that I now consider absolute holiday essentials.
1. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Nourishing Lip Balm SPF20
A good lip balm with SPF is one of those things I think everyone should have in their holiday bag.
My personal favourite is the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Nourishing Lip Balm SPF20. I actually managed to pick this up during a Boots £10 Tuesday offer, which was an absolute bargain. My only regret? I only bought one!
This little tube might be small, but it is mighty. It combines nourishing vitamins and minerals to keep your lips soft and moisturised, while the SPF20 helps protect them from UVA and UVB rays.
I particularly love the little squeeze tube and slanted applicator, which makes it really easy to apply without needing a mirror.
This was never far away from me during our recent holiday. Whether I was by the pool, out for the day or sitting outside in the evening, it was always in my bag.
Would I repurchase? Absolutely.
2. Wella Professionals Ultimate Colour Travel Set
My hair had been freshly cut and coloured just a few days before we went away, so I wanted to make sure I looked after it while we were away.
I decided to invest in the Wella Professionals Ultimate Colour Travel Set, which contains three products designed specifically for colour-treated hair.
First up is the Ultimate Color Shampoo, a sulphate-free shampoo designed to gently cleanse the hair while helping to minimise colour fade. It also contains Metal Purifier technology to help detox the hair from metals.
Then there’s the Ultimate Color Conditioner, which moisturises and smooths the hair, leaving it feeling silky while providing anti-breakage protection.
Finally, there’s the Ultimate Color Miracle Leave-In Mask, a 3-in-1 treatment designed to protect colour vibrancy, lock in moisture and help protect against breakage.
I personally wash my hair much more frequently when I’m on holiday. We were in the pool every day with Elsie, so my hair was washed every single day.
I used the leave-in mask every other day and, honestly, my hair felt amazing.
Despite the daily washing, swimming and being out in the sun, my hair stayed feeling soft and in really good condition.
This is definitely going back in my suitcase for our next sunny holiday.
3. Megababe Thigh Rescue Mini
If you’re a fellow curvy girl, you’ll know exactly why this one has made the list!
The Megababe Thigh Rescue Mini is a 23g anti-friction stick designed to create a barrier on the skin, allowing your thighs to glide smoothly against each other.
Basically, it helps prevent that horrible rubbing, chafing and burning sensation that can come with hot weather.
I used mine multiple times throughout the day and night during our holiday and my thighs were completely friction-free.
And that is a holiday win in my book.
I loved that it came in a mini size too, as it was easy to pop into my handbag or beach bag and reapply whenever I needed it.
Although it is designed with thighs in mind, it can also be used anywhere you experience chafing, including toes, shoulders and elbows.
Highly recommend this one – especially if you’re heading somewhere hot.
4. Essie On A Roll Apricot Nail & Cuticle Oil
I think our hands and, in particular, our nails go through a lot more on holiday than we realise.
Between swimming, sunscream, washing our hands more frequently and generally being in the sun and heat all day, my nails and cuticles can become really dry.
I made sure to use the Essie On A Roll Apricot Nail & Cuticle Oil every night before bed, followed by a good hand cream.
It has a little rollerball applicator, which makes it really easy to apply without getting oil everywhere. I simply rolled it over my nails and cuticles before massaging it in.
It became part of my little evening holiday routine and only takes a minute to apply.
Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference, and keeping my nails and hands moisturised meant they felt much healthier throughout the holiday.
5. Eucerin Sun Oil Control Dry Touch SPF50+
And finally, we have what I think is probably the most important product on this list: SPF.
And no, SPF isn’t just for holidays!
As someone with an oily T-zone, finding a facial SPF that doesn’t leave my skin looking shiny has always been a bit of a challenge.
The Eucerin Sun Oil Control Dry Touch Facial Sun Cream SPF50+ has become an absolute staple for me.
It provides SPF50+ protection while still feeling hydrating on the skin, but the thing I love most is the finish.
We were experiencing temperatures of 30+ degrees during our holiday and, despite the heat, my face didn’t feel excessively oily or look super shiny.
For an oily girlie, that is a BIG deal.
It sits really nicely on my skin and has become one of those products that I don’t want to be without, whether I’m abroad or at home.
SPF should absolutely be part of your everyday skincare routine, whatever the weather.
