The Crown and Crossed Swords – review
We finally enjoyed the Crown and Crossed Swords build your own burger takeaway so thought I’d share my review.
During lockdown the Crown and Crossed Swords like other pubs and restaurants had to close its doors but fortunately they have been operating a takeaway collection service from Thursday to Sunday.
They have two offerings – build your own burger – side – chips – drink £10 or the spring menu main + drink £8.95 each.
And if you fancy a Sunday roast without the fuss they offer this for £8.50 for a main.
With a rare day off while Elsie was still at nursery we decided to seize the opportunity of an early tea and have a treat with a takeaway.
What did we order from the Crown and Crossed Swords?
We both plumped for the build your own burger – side – chips – drink £10 which I think is really good value for money.
While we both opted for the 6oz British prime beef burger, I opted for a seeded bun with Steve choosing a brioche.
Steve went without cheese and I plumped for American Jack cheddar.
I think it’s brilliant that you can totally customise your burger to your preferences for no additional cost.
There’s lots of choice from what type of bun, sauces, sides and other extras.
Steve chose beer-battered onion rings for his side while I went with homemade coleslaw and we both plumped for skin on fries.
For drinks we went with Tango and lemonade.
I made our order over the phone paying by card in advance and was given instructions on how the collection process works.
Our collection slot time was 5:20 pm and I made my way to the rear car park and parked up in the bay and awaited my takeaway to be brought to the car.
Our overall thoughts on the Crown and Crossed Swords food
We had a nice little message on the side of our bag and everything was labelled up for us so it was easy to dish up the correct food.
There was plenty of food and everything was piping hot.
The beef burgers were meaty and packed full of flavour.
I really enjoyed the plentiful skin on fries and Steve couldn’t believe how many onion rings he got!
For £10 each we had an absolute feast and we were left stuffed and satisfied.
We haven’t had the chance to eat in the Crown and Crossed Swords yet but we will once restrictions have been eased and we feel comfortable to venture out for food again.
Until then we will be back for more takeaway – at this quality and price, it’s a really great deal.
