Skegness Aquarium – review
We had our first family visit to Skegness Aquarium so thought I’d share an honest review.
While enjoying visiting family in Skegness we wanted to go somewhere for us all to enjoy (grandparents, toddler and tired parents) that would work if the weather wasn’t great.
And Steve’s sister suggested Skegness Aquarium and after checking it would be open I booked our tickets online.
About Skegness Aquarium
After starting your adventure with an introduction from the captain, you will uncover the depths of Skegness Aquarium, learning all about the fantastical world of marine life, including fearsome sharks, tantalising octopus and venomous, fishy predators.
Outside is Jurassic Falls dinosaur land, an interactive installation of 20 plus epic dinosaurs, some animatronic from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods.
This roarsome outdoor attraction is as educational as it is entertaining and the perfect attraction for children and adults who love dinosaurs.
Visitors will walk a perilous path and come face-to-face with snarling, roaring and hissing dinosaurs amongst the trees and bushes.
Visitors will recognise many of their favourite movie dinosaurs including a giant 14-metre T-Rex, 8-metre Triceratops, snarling caged Velociraptors, 7-metre Spinosaurus, plus all the dinosaur babies.
Children and adults can test their knowledge when they encounter our quiz trail, answer all the questions correctly to unlock the hidden word and get the treasure.
Skegness Aquarium is incredibly proud to be an accessible business, with ramps throughout, disabled toilet access, and a lift.
It is wheelchair and mobility scooter friendly, and also allow the entry of registered guide dogs.
Please note that the paths within Jurassic Falls are historic and are not overly wide, so this may result in some difficulty when manoeuvring through.
Staff are friendly and on hand if you need any assistance.
Our visit to Skegness Aquarium
We booked our tickets via the website the day before our visit after checking the weather forecast which didn’t look great.
And we used the discount code thanks to signing up to the newsletter which saved us 15% off the tickets total.
We parked at The Embassy which is only a short and flat walk to the Aquarium which we were grateful for as it was blowing a gale.
Once inside, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly member of staff and our booking was confirmed and off we went to explore.
Elsie absolutely loved seeing all the different fish and everything was really accessible.
We went in March and as it wasn’t half term it wasn’t too busy and we had lots of time to explore.
As we went round we looked for the quiz clues to figure out the word to hopefully get a prize at the end!
Once we’d been round the aquarium Elsie explored the sandpit and we eventually tore her away to brave the elements outside to search for the dinosaurs.
Jurassic Falls dinosaur land felt very immersive at points Elsie was a little nervous but she explored everything.
The paths are quite narrow so some wheelchair users may struggle.
Back inside we headed upstairs and watched one of the staff feed some of the fish in the large diving tank.
We headed through to the cafe and Elsie went straight into the soft play which is suitable for 3-11 year olds.
Although we didn’t get anything the food looked nice – there was a selection of soft drinks, hot drinks, pasties and sweet treats to choose from.
And once Elsie was worn out from the soft play we headed back downstairs to the gift shop.
Nanny and Pops treated Elsie to a squishy octopus and a hatching dinosaur which she loved.
The same lady who checked us in on arrival served us in the gift shop and very kindly gave us some treasure at our poor attempt at the quiz (some chocolate coins).
We thought the gift shop wasn’t too outrageous in terms of price but some of the soft toys were quite pricey however a lot of the smaller gifts were pocket money prices.
Elsie absolutely loved her visit and the rest of us enjoyed it.
Skegness Aquarium is a really fun family day out – you could spend longer than we did if you had something to eat at the cafe and your little ones took full advantage of the soft play area.
It was clean and accessible and all the staff we encountered were smiley and friendly.
I would recommend Skegness Aquarium for a fun family day out it’s ideal for all the family!

Parking is not available at Skegness Aquarium but very nearby parking is available at The Embassy Car park opposite the aquarium and Hildred’s car park is only a five minute walk away.
Skegness is served by local bus routes, as well as the Nottingham to Skegness train line, which is operated by East Midlands Trains.
