Lunch at House of Botanics – review

With a rare weekday off we decided to head to House of Botanics for lunch and a mooch around the shop.

I’d been to House of Botanics for a wreath making workshop at the old base at Stack Newcastle which was much smaller and without the food!

Steve had been wanting to pay House of Botanics a visit for ages so with tummies rumbling we headed over.

We actually drove past and totally missed the signage thanks to the sat nav leading us astray.

House of Botanics is on the roundabout near Leadgate and near the Jolly Drovers pub.

Once we spotted the signs, we made our way right round the roundabout and into the small car park.

My overall thoughts on House of Botanics

You walk through the shop section before making it to the cafe area.

It’s fairly small but was quite busy for a Friday lunchtime not near pay day!

We found a table and perused the menu which has quite a good selection to choose from such as all day brunch – breakfast rolls, pancakes, croissants, toast and tea cake.

There’s also sandwiches made with ciabetta and flat breads as a twist to traditional pizza.

There’s also cakes, brownies, scones and other sweet treats to tempt you.

To drink we opted for an orange San Pelligrino for yours truly and a lemon for Steve.

And to eat I plumped for the BLT ciabatta without tomato and Steve went for the sausage and apple flat bread.

It’s a relaxed vibe and I liked it.

After a short wait our meals were brought over to the table.

I was surprised that my BLT (minus the T) wasn’t warm.

The bacon was thick and the ciabatta bread was really nice and soft.

I ate every morsel of food and throughly enjoyed it.

The bacon could’ve been a bit crispier for my taste as I like it quite gnarly however I enjoyed it.

Steve didn’t enjoy his lunch as much as I enjoyed mine unfortunately.

His flatbread had slices of Cumberland sausage and apple with mozzarella and cheddar cheese and a honey mustard drizzle with some garnish on top.

It wasn’t quite what he expected and he wished he’d went for a sandwich instead.

Once we’d finished eating we made our way through to the shop to settle the bill and have a mooch.

There’s lots of different plants, flowers, pots and even candles and photo frames as well as lots of other lovely things.

I would definitely return but maybe try something from the brunch menu and maybe a sweet treat!
