Le Petite Playhouse – review
We recently had a playdate with Elsie’s best friend at Le Petite Playhouse in Blaydon so thought I’d share an honest review.
It was our first visit to Le Petite Playhouse but I’m sure it won’t be our last.
About Le Petite Playhouse
Le Petit Playhouse is a role-play café located in Gateshead who offer a variety of small everyday living themes purposefully designed to encourage, exploration and independence for your little ones.
There are 9 different role play locations, meaning your little ones will never be short of activities whilst they explore and take on a variety of job roles and let their imagination run wild.
There’s also a designated baby area with baby soft play and Montessori toys.
And for bookworms there’s a calm area with bean bags to lie on, books to read and a huge chalk board to doodle on.
There’s a small craft room to get messy in.
And for the adults a café serving food, hot and cold drinks and sweet treats to enjoy while you supervise your children from a distance.

Our visit to Le Petite Playhouse
With it being half term Emma kindly booked us all in for the session online.
We checked the website prior to setting off for car parking information and knew to head to the Huntsman pub car park.
It only took us 20 minutes or so to travel from our home in County Durham and we found the pub easily and parked up without issue.
Le Petite Playhouse is literally next door to the pub and a very short walk.
Elsie’s best friend Ted and his family were already inside when we arrived and had nabbed a table for us all.
We quickly got our coats off and Elsie whisked her shoes off and was straight into the roleplay area with Ted.
While Elsie got stuck into playing, Steve nipped to the café and ordered us some drinks and I was able to catch up with Ted’s mam and dad.
The layout is great at Le Petite Playhouse, it’s a large open space with seating that wraps round the roleplay and baby play areas.
Inside the roleplay area is a park with stepping stones and artificial grass, a café, mini house, rocket, beauty salon, supermarket, builder’s yard, fire station, pet shop and a basket ball hoop.
Just beyond the actual café is the bean bag reading area with a huge chalkboard and a great selection of books to enjoy.
The toilets are also through there.
We didn’t have time to use the craft room but it looked well stocked and laid out.
Elsie thoroughly enjoyed the roleplay area especially dressing up as a firefighter and flying off to the moon in the huge rocket.
She also enjoyed the stepping stones and the builder’s bricks as well as all the Halloween decorations and balloons!
There’s lots of fancy dress to wear and lots of different toys in the roleplay area.
Emma said the baby area was good and baby Joseph enjoyed playing in there.
Steve and I both had a hot chocolate and they were delicious and not badly priced he said.
There’s light bite snacks, yummy treats like cakes and brownies as well as hot and cold beverages on the menu.
I really liked that wherever you were sat you could see the children playing in the roleplay area.
The fact that everything is one level means it’s accessible and it feels a really big open space.
Although it is a big open space it isn’t cold at all.
It was lovely that Elsie had a friend to play with so I could actually drink a hot drink and have a chat with friends.
We did take turns popping in to check on how they were doing and get them into their fancy dress costumes but they largely played independently.
The 1.5 hour session absolutely flew by and soon the music was on and we were all helping to tidy up.
We all really enjoyed our visit to Le Petite Playhouse and would definitely return.

Le Petite Playhouse prices
3 months – under 1yrs – £3.50
1yrs – 7yrs – £6.00
0-6months – free with paying sibling (no need to book just show your receipt)
Each session includes up to 2 adults, £2.00 per adult thereafter.
Sessions last 1 hour and 30 minutes and are limited to 20 children.
