Jumbo Jungle – review
We had our first visit to Jumbo Jungle in Consett so thought I’d share an honest review.
About Jumbo Jungle
Jumbo Jungle is more than 11000 square feet under one roof to keep both the adults and children happy for hours, they have something for all ages from babies to 12-year-olds.
There are more than forty car parking spaces exclusively for Jumbo Jungle customers, with secure fencing to ensure you and your children’s safety.
Inside there’s seating for more than 150.
For babies there are high chairs, bouncer chairs, feeding stations and also a separate nappy changing area.
Toddlers have their very own play frame just for them with many features including slides and tunnels and everything they need for that all important jungle adventure.
For children over 4 years old there is the main jungle frame with a giant twisty slide, rope swings, high tower bridge.
The on-site café offers hot and cold drinks, snacks, main meals and with regular meal deal offers.
They also offer term time toddler activity sessions delivered by qualified staff.
Jumbo Jungle also offer a variety of parties to suit children of all ages including Toddlers party, Go ape party, Pizza party and Disco party to name but a few, all parties are held in their themed party rooms, all of which are hand painted to tie in with the jungle theme.
Our visit to Jumbo Jungle
Fortunately for us, it’s a really short drive to Jumbo Jungle from our home in County Durham.
And with the wind howling and a toddler with energy to burn, we decided to check out this soft play.
The sat nav did lead us a little astray but we managed to find Jumbo Jungle using the signs dotted around the No 1 Industrial Estate.
There’s a decent sized free car park.
We had spotted an offer on the Jumbo Jungle Facebook page and we thought it was free entry (apparently this wasn’t correct) so we paid £9.95 for Elsie’s session.
The lady on reception did write on the back of my card receipt free return to use another day.
It’s a large space with tables and seats in the middle and two separate play areas – one for under 4s and one over 4s.
Elsie immediately dove into the under 4 soft play climbing frame, this is only two storeys high and wasn’t too wild!
Of course Steve had to go in with her as she isn’t very confident on her own.
After a while she decided to check out the large soft play climbing frame which is four storeys with bigger slides.
I gave Steve a break and went in with her and this was a lot wilder.
The overwhelming majority of children were unsupervised and going a bit too wild – pushing and climbing on each other.
Elsie enjoyed the more toddler/baby area which includes a large square ball pit and toys aimed at younger children such as walkers, push along walkers and lots of different trucks etc.
She enjoyed playing in this area and spent a lot of time here.
There were a lot of Ikea highchairs dotted about and we saw a few people tucking into food.
Although it was a fairly mild day in October the inside of Jumbo Jungle was really cold – you couldn’t sit without your coat on and we saw parents who weren’t running round after their little ones cradling hot drinks.
We didn’t get anything to eat or drink and stayed for less than two hours.
There is quite a large menu for those who do fancy something to eat.
Overall we felt that it was too wild for our timid toddler and to be honest we were really cold!
I’m not sure if we would rush to return, even with a free session.
We thought the Facebook offer wasn’t very clear and disingenuous, I couldn’t believe the price for one session to be honest.
We’ve only been to a couple of soft plays due to the pandemic and Elsie’s more timid nature but we weren’t bowled over with Jumbo Jungle.
We really enjoyed The Fun Zone which is also in County Durham but a bit more of a drive for us, this has a role play area and other activities besides soft play which our 3-year-old really enjoys.
If your toddler is a bit more adventurous and doesn’t mind things getting quite rough, Jumbo Jungle may be more suited to you.
However, we thought it was expensive, cold and not very clean.
