The Fun Zone – review
We had our first visit to The Fun Zone so thought I’d share an honest review.
As part of my five intentions for 2022 I want to make more memories and spend quality time with Elsie and Steve.
The Fun Zone launched during the pandemic and we’ve been wanting to visit for a while.
They had a special offer running for £1 per person for a two hour play session so we thought the Thursday Jubilee Bank Holiday was the perfect time to finally visit The Fun Zone together.

About The Fun Zone
The Fun Zone is in in a huge industrial unit not far from Durham and only a 30 minute drive from our village in County Durham.
It’s a vast space filled with a wonderful selection of activities including:
- a fun soft play
- role play village
- two bouncy castles
- bouncy slide
- two trampolines
- a baby area
- ride on vehicles
- prams and pushchairs
- baby bouncers
- playhouses
- books
- rides for younger children
- grabber machines
- air hockey
Please note there is an additional charge for the games.
Our visit to The Fun Zone
The Fun Zone was only about a 30 minute drive from our home in County Durham.
There’s a small free car park to the rear of the building and on-street free parking at the front.
We joined the queue just before opening and were soon ticked off the list and making our way inside.
There are plenty of places to sit, lots of tables with chairs as well as comfy sofas which are ideal if you’re not eating.
Elsie was enthralled straight away – she couldn’t wait to get her shoes off and explore the soft play.
She’s still quite new to soft play so isn’t fully confident yet, so Steve had to go in and help her a bit.
But she did get stuck in and she particularly loved the slide.
Elsie also enjoyed the little role play village area, similar to Believe & Be but not as large.
She liked the different rooms and particularly playing with the dolls and the doll house.
There’s trikes, ride in cars and pushchairs to play with too as well as fancy dress outfits.
The soft play is great for younger children and I think it’s best suited to children 7 and under.
I really liked that the layout is set around the edge of the unit so you can see your child at all times, even if you’re sat down.
There are lots of high chairs and clean toilets with changing baby facilities.
After about 45 minutes of playing I ordered her some lunch, fish bites and proper chips.
It took a bit of persuasion to pull her away from playing but she tucked in with gusto and I managed to try a little bit and it was really nice – light batter and proper chips!
She also enjoyed a red velvet cupcake which she devoured.
The food is really reasonably prices and the menu is surprisingly large catering for children and parents.
I found the staff to be really friendly and helpful and was shocked at how clean it was!
When we left the staff were already starting a big clean up ahead of the next session and Elsie was given a sticker and a warm goodbye.
The £1 per person for a two hour play session is an absolute bargain and has been running for a little while – it is definitely worth more than that but is fantastic offer to help parents during these challenging cost of living crisis times.
This was our first visit to the Fun Zone and I would definitely recommend it and would be happy to return again.
I would have some food myself on our next visit though – it all looked delicious.

The Fun Zone opening hours
Term time
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday (one long session) 9.30 – 5.30pm (last admission 4.30pm)
- Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am-3.00pm (one long session)
- After school club is also 3.30 – 5.30pm (last admission 4.30pm and last food order 4.30pm) at a cost of £7.50 for play and kids meal and cordial drink. After school club is now only on Mondays, Wednesday’s and Fridays only.
Every Saturday 3 x 2 hour sessions
- 10am – 12pm
- 12:30pm – 2:30pm
- 3pm – 5pm
