I recently enjoyed a fused glass Christmas tree workshop at The Glass & Art Gallery in Consett, County Durham so thought I’d share an honest review.

We were told in advance to dress in warm layers as the studio can be chilly and with it being mid-December I made sure to dress warmly.
I was looking forward to spending a couple of hours on my own doing something creative and mindful.
The run up to the festive period is always full of busy so a couple of hours away from the hustle and bustle and my phone was a welcome reprieve!
As I was a little early for the workshop I perused the wonderful gallery, there’s so many gorgeous gifts on display.
We’ve bought a few pieces from the gallery such as my purple bag Steve bought me for my birthday, a silver love heart dish and a few other trinkets.
I found the fused glass Christmas tree workshop at the Glass and Art Gallery in Consett, County Durham, a delightful and creative experience.
Set in a charming glass and art gallery with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the workshop provided an opportunity to create two beautiful, handcrafted glass Christmas trees – perfect for the festive season.
The owner of the gallery and our instructor Maralyn, was highly skilled and offered clear, step-by-step guidance throughout the session, ensuring that even beginners like me felt confident working with glass.
She even told us about the history of glass making and told us lots of tall tales from years goneby which I really enjoyed.
It was a very laid back atmosphere and we didn’t feel rushed.
The small class size allowed for plenty of personal attention, making it a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
I took my time planning out my design for each of my Christmas trees before starting to glue the glass down.
There were so many unique and stunning pieces of glass to choose from I felt spoilt for choice!
We had the chance to experiment with a variety of colours and designs, adding our own unique touch to our trees.
The materials provided were of high quality, and the final products, once kiln-fired, turned out stunning, showcasing the beauty and craftsmanship of glass art.
I thought the two hours absolutely flew by (we did slightly overrun) and it was lovely to just be in a room with other women chatting and creating.
We even enjoyed hot drinks and biscuits too!
Overall, the workshop was a fantastic way to unleash creativity and make a meaningful, personalised gift or decoration.
Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a complete novice, I would highly recommend this workshop for anyone looking to get into the festive spirit and explore the art of glassmaking.
A few days later I received a text message to let me know my Christmas trees were ready to be collected.
I added the hanging one to our main Christmas tree in the living room and the one with the wooden plinth to the windowsill.
Whether you’re seeking a unique gift, an engaging workshop, or simply a memorable day out, this is an experience definitely worth trying.
