For the second year running, Elsie and I made our way to Wallsend Rugby Club to see Cirque Du Hilarious – and once again, it didn’t disappoint.

Dubbed “The Superstars of Slapstick”, father and son Clive and Danny’s particular brand of lunacy runs throughout the show, causing chaos on stage and screams of laughter from all the whole family.

With a full supporting cast, of international circus acts, dancers, singers and of course hilarious favourite Mick Potts, Cirque Du Hilarious is like no other Circus!

Also starring CBBC’s Newest Comedy Stars Danny & Mick.

My overall thoughts on Cirque Du Hilarious

To break up the Summer holidays I booked tickets for Cirque Du Hilarious after we enjoyed it so much last year.

We’ve never watched Danny or Mick on TV, but that certainly doesn’t take away from the enjoyment.

So if you’re not familiar with them from their CBBC fame, don’t let that put you off – you’re in for a treat either way.

This fast-paced, laugh-a-minute show is packed with old-school slapstick comedy, led by the talented father-and-sons trio Clive Webb, Danny Adams, and Mick Potts.

Add in the glamorous Cirque Du Hilarious Showgirls, a traditional juggler, a jaw-dropping contortionist, as well as other acts and a touch of magic, and you’ve got a brilliant blend of chaos and charm that keeps the whole family entertained from start to finish.

Danny Adams is the clear star of the show – bursting onto the stage with boundless energy, cheeky one-liners, and just enough mischief to keep the adults chuckling while the kids howl with laughter (let’s face it – toilet humour never fails).

The comedy is silly, light-hearted, and completely joyful, and with no creepy clown makeup in sight, it’s perfect for little ones who aren’t fans of traditional circuses.

Despite the apparent mayhem, there’s real skill and timing behind every gag.

Clive Webb valiantly tries (and mostly fails) to keep Danny under control, and Mick Potts is brilliant as the hapless sidekick.

The props, water cannons and cream pies add to the fun – yes, we got wet! – and audience participation is a big part of the experience, with some brilliant moments involving unsuspecting volunteers.

At our show, it was a “dad special”, and the chosen dads were all fantastic sports.

It’s easy to see why Cirque Du Hilarious has won awards like the Ken Dodd Comedy Award and CFA Best Comedy Act.

The title says it all – it really is hilarious.

Every segment brought belly laughs, and there’s so much packed into the two-hour runtime that it’s hard to single out any particular highlight.

It’s pure, unfiltered fun – silly, silly fun – and it leaves you with aching sides and a huge grin.

Expect colourful costumes, catchy music, clever magic, slick dance routines, and plenty of surprises.

It’s everything you want from a variety show, delivered with energy, heart, and a whole lot of laughter.

A few practical notes: we sat ringside, where all seats are on one level unlike the grandstand where you are elevated – something to keep in mind if you’re bringing little ones.

I propped Elsie up with coats and hoodies, and she occasionally stood up for a better view.

Do be prepared to get wet and just go with it!

The tent can get really warm so make sure to dress appropriately and consider a fan for little ones.

Prices for snacks and merchandise were reasonable – a unicorn light-up wand was £9 and a can of pop was £2, which is far from extortionate compared to other venues.

There’s a good selection of sweets, popcorn, crisps, and drinks available.

At the end of the show, Danny and Mick stick around to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photos – although Elsie wasn’t fussed this time, plenty of excited kids queued up.

Cirque Du Hilarious is in Wallsend until 31 August – and if you’re anywhere nearby, it’s well worth a visit.

There’s plenty of on-site parking which is £3 per car you can pay cash, card or contactless.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or completely new to the show, this is family entertainment at its best – unashamedly silly, brilliantly performed, and full of fun for all ages.
