Christmas at Beamish – review
For the first time I’ve visited Beamish at Christmas and it was really festive.
Beamish is a fantastic open air museum which is less than half an hour from our home and they go all out for Christmas but I’d never visited during the festive period before.
I’ve visited a few times over the years and enjoyed going down a coal mine, eating traditionally cooked delicious fish and chips and seeing what life was like back in the day.
As I said in my 5 things I’m looking forward to for Elsie’s first Christmas we are trying to get right into the festive spirit this year.
Elsie and I met up with a couple of friends and their little ones at Beamish (sadly Steve was at work boo) but we still enjoyed ourselves.
They have a fairground with a real ice rink, Father Christmas in his grotto, the new 1950s welfare hall is open to enjoy Christmas crafts and music as well as the bazaar in the 1900s town park.
It was lovely to see all the festive decorations across the different sections of the museum.
As Elsie had seen the man in red during Festive Tales at Woodhorn we didn’t go into Santa’s Grotto but some of our friends did with their little boy.
It’s a small additional cost on top of your museum entry but my friends said it was worth it.
While we waited for them to see Santa we enjoyed seeing the reindeer and the large Christmas tree.
For the first time I ate at the tea rooms in the 1900s town and it was really charming.
I enjoyed a hot turkey stottie sandwich which was delicious.
They also had cold sandwiches, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings as well as lighter bites and children’s meal deals.
We got some treats from the sweetie shop and the bakery in the town – I scoffed all the baked goods myself sorry Steve!
Thankfully the weather was quite mild but we were all wrapped up well.
We walked for what felt like miles and the little ones seemed to really enjoy themselves.
It was a lovely day out and fab to catch-up with my friends and their little ones.
Unfortunately Elsie has had a nasty virus so we haven’t made it back to Beamish with Steve yet but my ticket lasts a whole year so I’m sure we will be back soon with him too!
