Breakfast at Maddison’s – review

Breakfast at Maddison’s – review

8th March 2026 1 By Rachael Stray

We recently enjoyed breakfast at Maddison’s in Consett so thought I’d share an honest review.

Half term called for a little treat, and with my car tucked up in the garage having new tyres, brake discs and pads fitted, it felt like the perfect excuse to head out for breakfast.

While the car was being sorted, we were tucking into something far more enjoyable at Maddison’s in Consett.

Elsie and I actually had a little drinks date here last year while Steve was off having his haircut.

She spied the breakfast menu and very seriously informed me that we simply had to come back to try breakfast.

A promise was made… and half term felt like the right time to keep it.

Breakfast at Maddison’s

After dropping off Marco Polo, we had a slow wander down to Maddison’s.

It opens at 9am, which suits us perfectly – not too early, not too rushed, just a gentle start to the day.

We were warmly welcomed as soon as we stepped inside and shown to a large booth for three.

Drinks were ordered while we perused the menu properly.

Steve opted for a small breakfast (words that would later prove amusing), Elsie went straight for a bacon sandwich, and I didn’t even hesitate before choosing the eggs Benedict.

If it’s on a menu, it’s almost guaranteed to be my order.

Steve had a small pot of tea, Elsie chose an orange Fruit Shoot, and I went for a full fat Coke – because sometimes breakfast calls for fizz.

Elsie happily got stuck into some colouring while we waited, and it wasn’t long before our plates arrived.

Steve was very glad he’d chosen the small breakfast – and still struggled to finish it!

Elsie ate almost her entire bacon bap (always the sign of a good one), and I polished off my eggs Benedict without any difficulty whatsoever.

Perfectly poached eggs, silky hollandaise, and that comforting combination of muffin, ham and yolk – exactly what I’d hoped for.

My only complaint was it was a little chilly inside but no complaints as far as our meal went!

There’s something lovely about carving out time for a midweek breakfast, especially during half term when the days feel slower and a little less structured.

A promise kept, happy tummies all round, and a car that was sorted out, a few shops visited – all in all, a very successful morning in Consett.
