Water Babies double happy nappy for swimming (AD)
We’ve been using the Water Babies double happy nappy system for swimming ever since Elsie’s first lesson*.
As a first time mam I was nervous about what to dress my baby in for swimming so I hope this post is useful.
When Elsie was just seven weeks old she had her very first swimming lesson – a gifted free taster session with Water Babies.
I fortunately had a swimming costume but I had no clue what Elsie needed!
So I spoke to the friendly team at Water Babies who reassured me that all I needed to bring was towels and a disposable swimming nappy as they would provide us with a special double happy nappy system for the lesson.
Elsie and I loved that taster session so much that we booked for chapter 1 lessons and now we’re onto chapter 3!
We have bought two happy nappy’s thanks to Elsie growing and I know she is warm enough and leak proof too!
We usually get our double happy nappy system from Water Babies at our lessons and have paid £6.99 I think this is a really fair price.

What is a Water Babies happy nappy?
A Water Babies happy nappy is ergonomically designed which means it moves with your baby and has a comfortable fit.
The high waistband, super-soft stretch material and extra-snug fabric bands round the thighs make sure any accidents stay safely inside. Trust me nothing is getting through the cuffs!
You have a liner to wear underneath which looks a bit like normal underwear and then the happy nappy goes on top.
We have always worn a disposable swimming happy underneath both but this isn’t actually necessary with the Water Babies happy nappy. I bought swimming nappies from Asda which were £2.50 for 13 which is the cheapest I found.
Making sure your baby doesn’t have an accident in the pool is really important.
If faeces leaks into a pool it is likely the pool will need to be closed while the water is drained and/or treated with chemicals.
This can mean scheduled swimming lessons and activities are cancelled and some pools even issue parents with a fine.
Our swimming lessons are at a local high school which has a hydrotherapy pool so it’s smaller, warmer and shallower than most pools – perfect for babies.
As the temperature is warmer than normal swimming pools Elsie doesn’t need to wear or costume or anything else as she is warm enough with just the happy nappy on.
If you’re swimming pool is cooler than I would recommend the happy nappy and either a wet suit or wrap to keep baby warm as well as protecting against any accidents.
Before you buy a swim nappy, check the recommended size and weight.
How to use and clean Water Babies happy nappy
- Put the happy nappy on your child, liner on first and then the outer one. Most reusable swim nappies work fine on their own but you may want your child to wear a disposable swim nappy underneath.
- Put your child’s regular swimwear over the reusable swim nappy or just use the nappy on its own. The Water Babies Happy Nappy is designed to look like regular swimwear so can be worn on its own.
- Reusable nappies can be hand washed in cool water or on a warm wash in the washing machine. Don’t tumble dry.
