The Stables Beamish Hall Hotel – review

We celebrated a rare child free day with a day date to The Stables restaurant at Beamish Hall Hotel so thought I’d share my review.

I’ve been wanting to visit for ages as the restaurant not only looks beautiful but the menu particularly appealing.

After a mishap with the sat nav and Steve not trusting my usually bad sense of direction, we arrived a little late to The Stables for our reservation.

There’s ample free parking at Beamish Hall Hotel and The Stables is well sign posted.

Once we had made our apologies we were escorted through to our table.

The Stables restaurant and bar

The restaurant really is something special.

Nestled next door to the grand Beamish Hall Hotel you walk through a rather lovely courtyard outside seating area.

The entryway is fabulously festive at the moment with Christmas trees, a reindeer and stars.

They’ve kept a nod to its past with lots of wood and original features.

While we waited for our soft drinks to arrive we perused the menu.

They’re currently offering their normal menu as well as a festive one.

After much deliberation (I could’ve eaten most of the menu quite happily) we settled on what we wanted to order.

I plumped for the pan fried prawns to start while Steve opted for his second choice the smoked mackerel rillett as his first was unavailable.

For our main course we both chose the steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes.

Our starters were brought out after a really short wait and we both tucked in.

My prawns really were king – juicy, meaty and packed full of flavour.

My bread had soaked up all the garlicy delicious sauce and every mouthful was a delight.

Steve said his starter was really tasty and he polished the lot.

We had a short wait for our main courses so we took in the ambiance of our surroundings and enjoyed our drinks.

I saw some of the turkey with all the trimmings from the festive menu being delivered to tables, and it looked delicious with a huge Yorkshire pudding on top.

Our steak and ale pies were accompanied with a really creamy mash and some al dente vegetables.

And I was pleased that we both had a jug of gravy each.

Of course I enjoyed all of my gravy – I am northern after all!

The pastry was golden and no soggy bottoms!

And the meat was really tender and the gravy really thick – a cracking pie.

The staff, although busy, were friendly and attentive.

I popped to the ladies before we left and went on a little adventure to find them (you have to go outside and then up a flight of stairs).

Happy to report they were really clean.

We really enjoyed our meals and would return to The Stables again.

The next time we visit though, we will go a different way – head to Beamish Museum and turn left before the museum and then it’s just a really short drive to Beamish Hall Hotel and The Stables.
