Sunday Lunch at Miller & Carter Newcastle – Review
We recently enjoyed Sunday lunch at Miller & Carter in Newcastle so I thought I’d share a honest review.
Steve absolutely outdid himself with a surprise day date to kick-start my birthday celebrations.
We began with a fabulous behind-the-scenes tour of the Tyne Theatre and Opera House – such a treat!

And because Elsie was happily being looked after by my parents, we decided to make the most of our child-free day and book in for Sunday lunch at Miller & Carter in Newcastle.
As part of our Christmas present last year, my parents gifted us a Miller & Carter voucher, and November was the first chance we’d had to cash it in. Perfect timing.
The Sunday Menu
The Sunday menu at Miller & Carter is a little different from the regular one, and after a fair bit of deliberation we opted for the three courses for £37.
It seemed the best value and, well, it was a birthday celebration after all.
Starters
Steve went straight for the Sticky Chipotle Chicken – sweet, glazed chicken bites with a chilli jam dipping sauce.

I had a little try (for research purposes of course!) and he was right: tender, flavoursome, and very moreish.
I naturally chose the classic prawn cocktail. The king prawns were juicy and perfectly cooked, the lettuce was crisp and fresh, and there was just a hint of spice.

The only downside was the presentation, which made it slightly awkward to cut into… resulting in me pinging a piece of lettuce out of the dish at one point. Graceful as ever.
Drinks were simple: an Appletiser for Steve and a Coca-Cola for me.

When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly quiet for a Sunday lunchtime but it started to fill up closer to 1pm.

Our server, Devon, was warm, welcoming and really friendly – great service throughout.
A Quick Loo Break
While waiting for our next course, we headed downstairs to the loos.
They’re individual, self-contained rooms with their own sinks, which is always a bonus.
Mine was clean, though noticeably cold, and there was quite a strong smell from the nearby bins in the corridor area. Thankfully this didn’t drift into the dining room.
Mains
Our salad wedges arrived about five minutes before the rest of the mains, which felt a tad early, but not a huge issue.
We both chose the 50 Day Aged Sirloin 8oz (GF) – medium rare for me, medium for Steve.
For my salad wedge, I went with bacon and honey mustard, while Steve chose the spicy burnt chilli and crispy onions. Both were generous and tasty.

We stuck with seasoned fries and both opted for peppercorn sauce. I’m someone who likes to drown my steak in it, whereas Steve delicately dips, but each to their own!

The steaks were absolutely spot on for both of our preferences – tender, full of flavour, and exactly what we were hoping for. The peppercorn sauce was the perfect match.
Desserts
Steve can never resist a classic, so he went for the Sticky Toffee Pudding (V) (GF) – rich toffee and date sponge with vanilla custard.

I went for the chocolate brownie. It was perfectly nice, but not the best I’ve had – I actually preferred the one from Dodgin’s Yard.

Still satisfying, just not standout.
Final Thoughts
This was Steve’s first Miller & Carter experience and he genuinely enjoyed it.
The food was well cooked, the service from Devon was great, and using our Christmas voucher made it feel like an extra treat.
A lovely way to kick off the birthday celebrations – and a rare peaceful Sunday without a six-year-old in tow!
