Roarsome Family Fun The Great Dinosaur Escape at Life, Newcastle – review

Roarsome Family Fun The Great Dinosaur Escape at Life, Newcastle – review

9th August 2026 0 By Rachael Stray

Steve and Elsie recently enjoyed a brilliant daddy-daughter day out at Life Science Centre in Newcastle, where The Great Dinosaur Escape is currently taking over the centre.

If you’re looking for something a little different to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays, a day out exploring dinosaurs and much more at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle should be on your must-visit list.

The adventure started before they even arrived.

By pre-booking their tickets online, they not only secured entry but also benefited from discounted parking – always a bonus when planning a family day out.

As soon as they stepped inside, it was clear this wasn’t your average dinosaur exhibition.

Become a Dino Ranger

The Great Dinosaur Escape sees 25 animatronic dinosaurs spread throughout the science centre, each waiting to be discovered.

Armed with a trail sheet, young Dino Rangers are challenged to track down the escaped dinosaurs, learn fascinating prehistoric facts and crack the secret code.

From towering four-metre giants to adorable newly hatched babies tucked away in nests, there’s something exciting around every corner.

The highlight has to be the enormous three-tonne T-Rex, although the baby Stegosaurus came a close second for Elsie!

The dinosaurs, created by Dinosaurios Mexico, are making their UK debut, and they’re incredibly lifelike.

Expect plenty of movement, roaring and a few surprises along the way.

More Than Just Dinosaurs

What makes this event really stand out is that it’s included with your standard science centre ticket, meaning there’s so much more to explore once you’ve completed the dinosaur trail.

Steve and Elsie spent most of the day making their way around the different interactive zones.

The Fossil Show was a particular favourite, where they discovered how fossils help us understand prehistoric life and even heard what scientists think dinosaurs may actually have sounded like.

In the Experiment Zone, they investigated asteroid impacts and explored some of the science behind Earth’s history through hands-on activities.

They also loved exploring the Brain Zone, tackling puzzles and interactive exhibits, before heading into the ever-popular Space Zone, where Elsie was fascinated by the astronaut displays and enjoyed seeing her face projected onto the giant screen.

No visit to Life would be complete without stopping by the Wow Zone, where interactive exhibits encourage children (and adults!) to get involved.

Testing strength on the pulley chairs proved to be great fun and offered a completely different view of the science centre.

Elsie also enjoyed making a mask and drawing too.

A Full Day of Family Fun

One of the best things about Life is just how much there is to do.

Rather than rushing through a single exhibition, Steve and Elsie easily spent most of the day exploring everything on offer, making it excellent value for money.

The combination of interactive science, hands-on learning and prehistoric adventure meant there was never a dull moment, and the dinosaur trail added an extra layer of excitement throughout the visit.

Would We Recommend It?

Absolutely.

If you’re looking for a family day out that combines education, adventure and plenty of fun, The Great Dinosaur Escape at Life Science Centre is well worth a visit this summer.

Whether your little ones are dinosaur fanatics or simply love exploring, there’s something for all ages to enjoy.

Pre-booking online is recommended, not only to guarantee entry but also to take advantage of discounted parking.

Steve and Elsie came home with lots of stories to tell, plenty of dinosaur facts to share and smiles on their faces after what was, quite simply, a roarsome day out.
